GAME NOTES: The California Golden Bears will attempt to recover from a home loss when they visit the Washington State Cougars for a Pac-12 Conference conflict on Wednesday night.

California has been idle since last Wednesday when it was defeated by Stanford at Haas Pavilion, 80-69. The loss was the fourth in the last five games for the Golden Bears, who did upset then top-ranked Arizona during the stretch. They are now 15-8 overall, with a 6-4 mark against the rest of the conference. A visit to Washington is next on the docket.

Washington State was in action more recently, but earned a similar result, dropping an 81-63 decision to Utah on Saturday. The loss was the sixth in the last seven games for the Cougars, who have the worst overall record in the Pac-12 (9-14), but are still a half game ahead of last-place USC. They will host Stanford next.

When these teams met the first time this season, Cal had no trouble earning a 76-55 win. The Golden Bears have won back-to-back bouts and seven of the last nine against Washington State, extending their series lead to 74-47 in the process.

Justin Cobbs poured in 24 points and Tyrone Wallace added 21, but it wasn't enough for California against bay area rival Stanford. The Golden Bears only connected on 41.3 percent of their shots from the floor, while being dominated in points at the free-throw line (28-12).

Cal is usually the team keeping its opponents to low field goal percentages, as it has allowed teams to connect on just 41 percent from the floor and score 69 ppg this season. At the offensive end, Cobbs (16 ppg, 6 apg) is the play- maker, leading the team in scoring and assists. He is also second in the Pac-12 in assists. Tyrone Wallace (12 ppg, 3 apg) is a nice complement in the backcourt, while David Kravish (11.7 ppg, 7.6 rpg) and Richard Solomon (11.3 ppg, 10.5 rpg), who leads the conference in rebounds, combine to form as solid a frontcourt duo as there is in the league.

DaVonte Lacy scored 22 points and D.J. Shelton tallied 19 points and 10 boards for Washington State on Saturday. However, the rest of the team managed just six field goals on a 38.9 percent overall shooting performance in the loss to Utah.

It is getting difficult to figure out an interesting way to say it, but the Cougars are hands down the worst offensive team in the Pac-12. They are last in scoring (62.6 ppg), assists (10.8 ppg) and field goal percentage (.413). They are also last in rebounding (32.9 rpg). Lacy (18.5 ppg) is one of the best pure scorers in the Pac-12, although he has been limited to 15 games due to injury. In the three games he has been back, Lacy has averaged 22 ppg. Unfortunately, the Cougars are just 1-2 in those contests. Que Johnson (10.5 ppg) led the offensive charge when Lacy was sidelined, and is still the only other double-digit scorer on the roster.

Having the homecourt advantage may be the only edge the Cougars have in this game. Expect them to keep it close, but for the more balanced Golden Bears to find a way to win.

Sports Network Predicted Outcome: California 71, Washington State 65
