GAME NOTES: The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets and St. John's Red Storm will attempt to salvage their trip to Brooklyn, as the two teams square off in the consolation game of the Barclays Center Classic.

The Yellow Jackets found themselves up against an undefeated Ole Miss squad in semifinal action on Friday and came up short in a 77-67 decision. The loss ended a brief two-game win streak for Tech, which is still off to a nice start on the year, at 5-2.

St. John's found itself in a slug-fest with Penn State, but after battling back in the second half and taking the game into overtime, the Red Storm fell to the Nittany Lions, 89-82. The loss was just the second on the season for St. John's, but it did bring an end to a four-game win streak.

Georgia Tech has tied up the all-time series with St. John's with wins in the last two meetings. The last one however, came in 2003.

The Rebels took control during the first half and never let up, in keeping the Yellow Jackets at arm's length the rest of the way on Friday. The loss spoiled a strong performance by Solomon Poole, who came off the bench to tally a career-high 24 points. Robert Carter Jr. just missed a double-double with 11 points and nine rebounds, while Marcus Georges-Hunt and Trae Golden finished with 10 points apiece. A slow start buried the Yellow Jackets, who shot an ugly .206 from the floor in the first half, resulting in a 14-point halftime deficit (35-21).

The Yellow Jackets are a solid offensive squad that is netting 75.6 ppg on .453 efficiency from the floor. The team has also done well on the boards, outrebounding foes by eight caroms per game. Golden is both the team's top scorer (14.1 ppg) and distributor (3.7 apg). Georges-Hunt is next in line at 12.6 ppg, followed by Daniel Miller's 10.6 ppg. Carter is just under double digits at 9.3 ppg, but is over the mark in rebounding with a team-best 10.1 rpg.

The Red Storm battled back from a 15-point second-half deficit, but could not get past Penn State on Friday, dropping a seven-point decision in overtime to the Nittany Lions. D'Angelo Harrison took center stage in the second half surge and finished the game with a team-high 20 points. Max Hooper came off the bench to tally 15, while Phil Greene IV totaled 14 points, seven rebounds and five assists in the loss. Chris Obekpa had just six points in the game, but was a monster inside, grabbing 13 rebounds and blocking seven shots.

The Red Storm haven't lit up scoreboards on a regular basis in the early going and come into this contest averaging a modest 71.0 ppg on .432 shooting. Harrison is shooting under 40 percent from the floor, but is still putting up a hefty 19.5 ppg. JaKarr Sampson and Greene round out the team's top scoring threats at 11.8 and 11.7 ppg, respectively. The scoring pool evaporates after that however, as no one else on the roster is averaging more than 5.5 ppg.

Tech has the deep rotation and should be able to fend off the Red Storm to earn a win here.
