GAME NOTES: The TCU Horned Frogs will try once again to earn their first Big 12 Conference victory of the season when they tangle with the Kansas State Wildcats at Bramlage Coliseum on Wednesday night.

TCU has faced a treacherous run in the Big 12, playing ranked teams in eight of its last 11 games, but it has nonetheless fallen flat with an 0-12 mark, which includes a 95-65 drudging at the hands of Kansas on Saturday. The Horned Frogs are 9-15 overall (3-6 on the road) and haven't won since downing Texas Southern on Dec. 29 (77-64).

Kansas State, meanwhile, has been very impressive this season at 17-8 overall and 7-5 in league action and received votes in the most recent poll. The Wildcats had been winners of three of their previous four prior to their heartbreaking double-overtime loss at Baylor on Saturday, 87-73, but now they return home to Bramlage Coliseum, where they've gone an outstanding 13-1.

The Wildcats lead the all-time series with the Horned Frogs, 6-2, including an easy 65-47 win in Fort Worth back on Jan. 7.

The Horned Frogs were simply no match for the mighty Jayhawks their last time out, as they were outshot from the field, 61.5 percent to 46.3 percent, and lost both the rebounding (35-18) and turnover (17-9) battles en route to the embarrassing 30-point defeat. Kyan Anderson was outstanding despite the setback, shooting 8-of-9 from the field and 7-of-9 at the free-throw line for 25 points while also dishing out five assists. Amric Fields was the only other player in double figures with 12 points.

On the season, TCU has not performed up to par on either end of the floor, shooting just 41.1 percent from the field for 64.9 ppg while allowing 71.5 ppg on 43.9 percent shooting, and it is also regularly outmuscled on the glass with a -8.0 rebounding margin. Anderson has been one of the few bright spots for the squad, scoring 16.6 ppg on 48.6 percent field-goal shooting to go with 4.9 apg. Fields (13.5 ppg, 6.1 rpg) and Brandon Parrish (9.4 ppg) round out the modest attack.

The Wildcats led for most of regulation at Baylor over the weekend, including by 10 with under nine minutes to play, but the Bears climbed back to tie the game and force an extra session. Kansas State overcame a deficit to force a second overtime but was thoroughly outmatched in the final five-minute period and suffered the 14-point loss. They shot just 38.4 percent from the field on the evening, including 4-of-18 from 3-point range. Nino Williams tallied 20 points and eight rebounds, Marcus Foster logged 18 points and 10 assists and Thomas Gipson added 12 points to the losing effort.

The majority of K-State's success this season has come thanks to its outstanding defense, which holds opponents to just 40 percent field-goal shooting and 63.6 ppg. Offensively, the team hasn't stood out, putting up just 69.3 ppg, although it does live in the green in terms of rebounding (+1.3) and turnovers (+1.1). Foster pours in a team-best 15.1 ppg, and he's been especially hot of late, averaging 23.8 ppg over the last four contests. Gipson mans the paint with 11.6 ppg and 6.3 rpg and Shane Southwell brings 10.4 ppg, 4.7 rpg, 3.1 apg and nearly a block and a steal per outing, although he missed the Baylor game with a foot injury.

Points will surely come at a premium in this one with two underwhelming offenses going at it, but don't expect Kansas State to break much of a sweat defending its home floor against the sliding Horned Frogs.
