Orange crush Maine

Syracuse, NY (Sports Network) - Brandon Triche notched a team-high 16 points and nine Orange players scored at least seven, as No. 8 Syracuse decimated Maine, 101-55, at the Carrier Dome.

Syracuse (8-0) shot 65.1 percent from the field, including 12-of-23 from beyond the arc, while holding the Black Bears (3-4) to 26.5 percent shooting.

Arinze Onuaku and Kris Joseph each ended with 14 points, and Mookie Jones added 12 for the Orange, who face nationally-ranked Florida in Tampa next Thursday.

"It is going to be key for us to keep playing unselfish," said Syracuse's Andy Rautins. "We know that Florida is a physical, athletic team and they are going to get up and down the floor. We have to get back in transition and rebound the ball well."

Maine, which was coming off a win over Colgate on Thursday, was led by Gerald McLemore's 21 points. Junior Bernal shot 1-for-11 from the field for seven points in the lopsided setback.

Syracuse was up 13-6 and consecutive three-pointers from Rautins and Wesley Johnson began a string of 10 straight points for the hosts.

The margin was 26-10 prior to a debilitating 32-0 stretch that did in the Black Bears, who went scoreless for nearly 11 minutes.

Jones started the run with a trey with 11 1/2 minutes remaining in the half. The stretch featured nine different scorers, and James Southerland's late jumper made it a 60-12 game at the break.

With roughly two minutes remaining, Syracuse eclipsed the 100-point mark for the second time in an otherwise forgettable second half.

Game Notes

Rick Jackson chipped in eight points and seven rebounds for Syracuse, which received 10 points apiece from Southerland and Scoop Jardine. Rautins ended with eight points and nine assists for the Orange, who won the battle on the glass, 45-33.
