GAME NOTES: Remaining in the Lone Star State, the Mavericks of Texas-Arlington try yet again to win their first road date of the season as they tangle with the Texas Longhorns at the Frank Erwin Center in Austin.

The Mavericks, winless in four tries on the road, are currently riding a four- game slide overall, after having won back-to-back bouts versus Samford and Howard Payne. The latest setback took place over the weekend in a 74-69 decision at Eastern Michigan

As for the Longhorns, they've enjoyed a 4-0 start to their home slate this season, but earlier this week the team was in Kansas City for the championship round of the CBE Hall of Fame Classic. Texas was taken down by BYU on Monday, 86-82, but bounced back a day later with a 77-59 triumph over DePaul.

Texas has never lost to the Mavericks, winning all eight of the previous encounters. The most recent meeting took place about this time last season as the Longhorns registered a 70-54 victory at home.

The Mavericks made a total of only eight field goals in the first half against EMU over the weekend, but five of those were from behind the 3-point line and the team also knocked down 14-of-20 at the free-throw line in the period to stay within striking distance. In the second half, while UTA actually closed the gap, the visitors ran out of time in the five-point loss. The Mavericks were paced by Brandon Edwards and his massive double-double consisting of 30 points and 13 rebounds, followed by Reger Dowell and Jamel Outler with 22 and 12 points, respectively.

Edwards, who has scored in double figures in every game this season, has posted a double-double in all but two of those outings and is now averaging 19.1 points and 11.1 rebounds per contest. Believe it or not, Edwards actually takes a back seat in the scoring department for the Mavericks with Dowell coming up with 24.6 ppg, thanks in large part to his 28 3-point field goals, which are more than all but Edwards has made from the floor overall to this point.

Cameron Ridley scored 19 points and pulled down nine rebounds as the Texas Longhorns captured a 77-59 win over the DePaul Blue Demons in a consolation matchup of the CBE Hall of Fame Classic at the Sprint Center. Also scoring in double figures for the Longhorns were Isaiah Taylor with 14 points and the trio of Demarcus Holland, Jonathan Holmes and Kendal Yancy with 10 points apiece. Texas forced 15 turnovers and doubled-up on the glass, 40-20, the Horns clearing almost as many offensive rebounds (18) as DePaul had rebounds overall.

Texas, which is scoring 80.0 ppg through six games, has learned to spread the wealth as there are four players scoring in double figures, but none with more than 13.3 ppg (Holmes). Javan Felix, a part-time starter, accounts for 12.3 ppg and a team-best 23 assists in order to make up for his 37.7 percent shooting from the field, followed by Taylor and Holland with 10.5 and 10.2 ppg, respectively.

Clearly the Mavericks have some talented players in Edwards and Dowell, but just two players will not be enough to shock the Longhorns on their home floor tonight.

Sports Network Predicted Outcome: Texas 83, Texas-Arlington 64
