GAME NOTES: The West Virginia Mountaineers will try to recover from a one- point loss to Oklahoma State that snapped a three-game win streak, when they host the Texas Longhorns in Big 12 Conference play at the WVU Coliseum on Monday.

Texas, after a superb start to the season, has slipped up recently, losing three of its last fives games. The Longhorns lost two straight conference matchups to Oklahoma and Oklahoma State, but finally got in the win column with a 67-64 victory over Texas Tech on Saturday.

West Virginia suffered its first Big 12 loss Saturday to the Cowboys by a single point, 73-72, which ended a three-game win streak. The Mountaineers have won four of their last six games played.

West Virginia holds a slim 3-2 all-time series lead between the two programs, and won the most recent contest - a Feb. 4, 2013, victory in Morgantown.

Texas received some clutch defensive play and two crucial late-game free throws from Cameron Ridley that put the Longhorns ahead for good with 35 seconds remaining against Texas Tech. Isaiah Taylor led the way for Texas, netting 14 points on 5-of-9 shooting from the floor to go along with four assists. Javan Felix scored 12 points, and Prince Ibeh chipped in eight and grabbed a team-high eight rebounds in the win. The Longhorns hit 45.1 percent of their shots on the night.

Jonathan Holmes leads Texas this season in scoring with 12.7 ppg and is second on the roster with 6.9 rpg. Ridley paces the team in rebounding with an impressive 7.1 rpg clip, and is fourth in scoring at 10.6 ppg. Taylor is second on the Longhorns in scoring at 11.3 ppg and leads them in assists with 81 total on the year. Texas as a unit is averaging 77.8 ppg on 44.3 percent shooting from the floor.

West Virginia held a lead against No. 11 Oklahoma State until the clock ticked down to 11 seconds remaining. Markel Brown hit a go-ahead 3-point field goal that lifted the Cowboys over the Mountaineers, 73-72, to give West Virginia its first conference loss this season. Terry Henderson scored a team-high 21 points, while Juwan Staten netted 21, pulled down five rebounds and dished out eight assists for the Mountaineers. Devin Williams scored 12 points and grabbed 13 rebounds for the double-double.

Eron Harris, who netted 11 points against Oklahoma State, leads the Mountaineers this season in scoring at 18.1 ppg, followed closely by Henderson at 17 ppg. Henderson has distributed a team-best 98 assists on the year. Williams, averaging 10.1 ppg, tops the Mountaineers in rebounding at 8.1 rpg. West Virginia is outscoring its opponents this season by an average of almost 12 points per contest.

This will be a tough battle for both squads, but West Virginia's excellent defense and streaking offense should be enough to down the Longhorns at home.
