Rebels crush Bulldogs

Oxford, MS (Sports Network) - David Huertas drained 17 points to lead 18th- ranked Ole Miss over the Alabama A&M Bulldogs, 86-50, breaking a Rebels record that had stood since 1926, with its 13th consecutive win overall.

Chris Warren scored 15 points and handed out seven assists for Ole Miss (13-0), which had already set a school record for wins to start a season after earning its 12th. Eniel Polynice added 13 points, while Dwayne Curtis notched a double-double, grabbing 10 rebounds to go with 10 points. The Rebels extended their streak of home wins versus non-conference foes to 19 straight.

LaNorris Smith contributed 12 points for Alabama A&M (3-7), extending its losing skid to four consecutive contests. Andrew Williams scored 10 points, and Mickell Gladness notched eight points and seven boards. The Bulldogs are winless as the visitor this season, dropping to 0-5.

The Rebels set the tone right out of the gate, ripping off a 13-0 run in the opening 2:48. Huertas highlighted the burst with six points, and closed it out with a monstrous assist, hooking up with Jeremy Parnell for an alley-oop.

Ole Miss followed that up with an 11-0 streak soon after, blowing the game wide-open. Polynice netted two layups during the run, as the Rebels took a 30-9 advantage with 7:20 to play in the half.

On top 46-19 heading into the break, the Rebels were comfortably in control. The Bulldogs were held to just 7-for-29 shooting in the half, a woeful 24.1 percent.

After coming out of the locker room on a 7-0 burst in the first 2:30, Ole Miss sat several of its starters and let the bench finish the blow-out.

"This could have been a game where our guys may have let their guard down," explained Ole Miss head coach Andy Kennedy. "We're approaching league play, and I think (our guys) are excited about the opportunity to play in the league. Tonight was an opportunity to gain experience in several areas for our new guys, and I thought our kids responded well."

The Rebels shot 53 percent from the field, knocking down 35-of-66 in the game.
