GAME NOTES: The Tennessee State Tigers travel to Kentucky to take on the Morehead State Eagles in an Ohio Valley Conference clash at Johnson Arena.

Tennessee State beat SIU Edwardsville, 66-61, last Thursday night. That win snapped a three-game losing streak for the Tigers, who currently reside in last place in the East Division of the OVC.

Morehead State lost to Murray State last Saturday night and is in second place in the East Division, two games behind Belmont. Prior to that setback, the Eagles had won five straight.

This is the second meeting this season between these two teams. Morehead State won the first in overtime, 80-74, back on Jan. 25. The Eagles lead overall series by a 33-29 margin.

Patrick Miller netted 23 points and grabbed six rebounds as his Tigers edged out the SIU Edwardsville Cougars. M.J. Rhett tallied a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds, and Chaed Wellian tacked on 12 points in the win.

Miller (22.4 ppg, 3.9 apg) is the go-to option, leading the conference in scoring and he has scored at least 20 points in 11 of the last 12 games and has made an impression with his passing as well. However, he has largely had to do it alone, with the team netting only 68.6 ppg on 42.7 percent shooting, while allowing 76.0 ppg to their opponents. Rhett (10.3 ppg, 8.9 rpg) attacks the glass with skill and tenacity, ranking fourth in the OVC in rebounding, while serving as the second-best scorer on the roster for the Tigers.

Angelo Warner scored 18 points to lead Morehead State in the recent loss to Murray State, and Chad Posthumus contributed 14 points with nine boards. The Eagles shot a dismal 19 percent from 3-point range. Murray State came out firing in the first half, netting 57.7 percent of its field goal tries, going 5-of-12 from 3-point distance. The Racers took a 40-23 lead into the break after Morehead State connected on just 36 percent of its shots in the opening frame and never challenged in the second half.

The Eagles are netting 77.4 ppg on 45.1 percent shooting. Where they really shine is on the glass however, as they lead the OVC and rank 21st nationally in rebounding (39.0 rpg). Posthumus (10.2 ppg, 11.6 rpg) is the main reason for their dominance down low, as he is tied for second in the country in cleaning the glass. While Posthumus also lends a hand in the scoring department, it is Warner (17.5 ppg) and Brent Arrington (11.6 ppg) that are the most productive offensive weapons, with Drew Kelly (10.1 ppg) working his way into the mix as well.

The Eagles are a much more dangerous offensive club and are hoping to bounce back after the loss to Murray State. Expect them to turn up the heat and send the Tigers packing.
