GAME NOTES: Winners of three straight, the Georgetown Hoyas will try to stay hot as they entertain the Providence Friars in a Big East Conference battle at the Verizon Center.

Things looked grim for Georgetown entering the month of February, but the Hoyas have rebounded from a five-game losing streak by winning all three games they have played this month. They are now 14-9 overall, but still a game under .500 in conference play (5-6). The next two games on the schedule are road contests against St. John's and Seton Hall.

The Friars have been headed in the opposite direction recently, with losses in three of their last four contests. Providence still boasts a solid 16-8 overall record, but they have had only minor success in conference play (6-5). Up next, the Friars host DePaul and Villanova.

When these teams met earlier this season, Providence rolled to a 70-52 victory on its home floor. The win was the first for the Friars over the Hoyas since 2005. Georgetown leads the all-time series, 43-20.

Josh Fortune scored a game-high 17 points, but Providence fell flat in a 59-53 decision against Xavier last time out. The Friars only connected on 37.5 percent of their shots from the floor, while being outscored 36-20 in the paint.

Bryce Cotton (20.8 ppg, 5.9 apg), who is second in the Big East in scoring, had a tremendous amount of trouble against Xavier, tallying only nine points on 4-of-11 from the field. It was just the second time this season Cotton has failed to score in double figures, ending a streak of 21 games. He did make up for his struggles by handing out seven assists, adding to his Big East lead in that category. LaDontae Henton (13.8 ppg, 7.3 rpg), Kadeem Batts (12 ppg, 7.7 rpg) and Tyler Harris (11.9 ppg, 5.2 rpg) supplement Cotton's efforts in the backcourt by forming a strong trio up front. However, Henton was the only one of the three to score in double figures against Xavier, netting 14 points.

Markel Starks scored 19 points and handed out seven assists to help Georgetown defeat Butler, 71-63. The Hoyas connected on 49.1 percent of their shots from the floor, and had twice as many assists (14) as turnovers (seven).

Georgetown is a hard-nosed unit, putting forth strong efforts most nights at the defensive end of the court. The Hoyas are permitting just 66.4 ppg, while ranking 26th nationally in opponent field goal percentage (.396). Starks (16.9 ppg, 4 apg) and D'Vauntes Smith-Rivera (16.9 ppg) lead the way for the Hoyas, teaming together in the backcourt. Smith-Rivera scored 18 points and also collected five rebounds against Butler. Depth is not a luxury that the Hoyas enjoy, with Jabril Trawick (7.4 ppg) the next best scoring option. Trawick finished with eight points on 4-of-10 shooting last time out.

The Hoyas have played well recently, led by Starks and Smith-Rivera. The duo should give Cotton issues and help keep the Hoyas' winning streak alive.

Sports Network Predicted Outcome: Georgetown 70, Providence 63
