NCAA Game Summary - Georgia at Alabama

(Saturday, March 9)

Final Score: Alabama 61, Georgia 58

Tuscaloosa, AL (Sports Network) - Trevor Releford drained a 3-pointer as time expired to lift the Alabama Crimson Tide to a 61-58 victory over the Georgia Bulldogs in a SEC thriller at Coleman Coliseum.

Releford finished with a game-high 19 points and swiped three steals for Alabama (20-11, 12-6 SEC) as it snapped a two-game losing slide and clinched a double-bye into the quarterfinals in the upcoming SEC Tournament. Nick Jacobs netted 11 points in the win.

Kentavious Caldwell-Pole and Nemanja Djurisic scored 14 points each for Georgia (15-16, 9-9) while Brandon Morris chipped in 11 points. The loss ended the Bulldogs' two-game win streak.

The Crimson Tide took control early on as they hit on 45.8 percent of their field goal attempts, including 4-of-9 from 3-point range, en route to a 32-18 halftime lead. Georgia trailed at the break after it shot 26.1 percent from the floor in the opening 20 minutes.

The Bulldogs charged back after halftime by knocking down 58.3 percent of their field goal tries including 5-of-8 from beyond the arc. Caldwell-Pope drilled a triple with 48 seconds left that tied the score at 58. Georgia's huge effort to erase the 17-point deficit went to waste as Releford answered with the game-winning trey at the buzzer.

Despite the loss, Georgia enjoyed a 34-28 edge in the rebounding battle.
