GAME NOTES: The Sam Houston State Bearkats take on the Niagara Purple Eagles, as both teams seek their first win in the 2011 CBE Classic.

Niagara lost in its second-round game in this event as it fell to Mercer, 74-55. Antoine Mason played well for the Purple Eagles, as he scored 20 points on 50 percent shooting from the field. Juan'ya Green chipped in with 11 points.

Sam Houston State was outplayed by South Dakota State in the second round of the CBE Classic, as it lost to the Jackrabbits in a 76-60 final. The Bearkats had three players score in double figures in the loss. Konner Tucker led the team with 14 points on 5-of-13 shooting from the floor. Michael Holyfield and Darius Gatson added 12 points apiece in the losing effort. Demarcus Gatlin did a good job on the boards as he pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds.

This will be the first all-time meeting between Niagara and Sam Houston State.

Niagara outshot Mercer from the field, as the Purple Eagles made 41.7 percent of their field goal attempts compared to the Bears' 40 percent. Mercer dominated the three-point shooting aspect of the game, draining 10-of-22 attempts from beyond the arc while Niagara only made 3-of-19. The Purple Eagles were beat soundly on the glass, as Mercer grabbed eight more rebounds.

The Bearkats struggled to find their offense as they shot 39.7 percent from the floor and 25 percent from beyond the arc. They made 66.7 percent from the charity stripe, but only attempted 12 free throws. The ball movement for SHSU must improve as it only had four assists against 15 turnovers in the loss. South Dakota shot 22-of-51 from the floor and 41.7 percent from three-point range against the Bearkats. The Jackrabbits attempted 32 free throws in the contest.

Both squads have had disappointing tournaments so far. The shooting performances by Sam Houston State and Niagara have both been sub par, so it will come down to which team is more aggressive. Niagara has proven it can get to the foul line, and if it can start connecting from the charity stripe at a higher rate it should be able to pull out a victory today.

Sports Network Predicted Outcome: Niagara 65, Sam Houston State 60
