GAME NOTES: Green Bay begins a run of five straight games at home tonight, as the Phoenix entertain the Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles in non-conference action.

Green Bay has just returned from a two-game road trip that included stops at Eastern Michigan and South Dakota, the latest resulting in an 89-85 victory versus the Coyotes on Saturday night in Vermillion. The victory was the third in the last four outings for the Phoenix and moved the team to an even 1-1 in true road games.

As for the Golden Eagles, they managed to balance their record at 6-6 on Sunday when they played the third of four straight road games against Lamar and came away with a 79-74 victory. After tonight's contest, Tech will return home to face Hillsdale College on Thursday before kicking off another three- game road trip on Dec. 28 at Utah Valley.

Tennessee Tech won the only previous meeting between the programs last December by a score of 74-68 at home.

The Golden Eagles shot a sizzling 66.7 percent from the field in the first half against Lamar, allowing the visitors to overcome 12 turnovers in the period and build a 13-point halftime lead. After the break, Tech nearly let the game slip away, but it held on for the victory despite 21 miscues and only 5-of-17 shooting beyond the arc. Dennis Ogbe accounted for 17 points, Ty Allen 15 and both Shirmane Thomas and Ladon Carter 12 points, the latter also coming up with a game-high 12 rebounds for the visitors as they produced a 34-24 edge on the glass.

With 12 games in the books, the Golden Eagles have only one double-digit scorer on the roster as Allen puts up 12.2 ppg, although he is shooting only 38.0 percent from the floor and 32.1 percent out on the perimeter. The team as a whole is producing a modest 74.2 ppg, and while it shoots 45.6 percent from the floor and only 32.0 percent on the outside, the squad does take advantage in the paint with a rebounding edge of almost six boards per contest.

Keifer Sykes led five players in double figures as he delivered 23 points, helping the Green bay Phoenix to come up with the four-point win over the South Dakota Coyotes in non-conference action at the DakotaDome. Sykes, who shot 9-of-12 at the free-throw line, added six rebounds and five assists for the Phoenix. Alec Brown filled in his stat line with 17 points, eight rebounds, five blocked shots and four assists, followed by Greg Mays with 15 points. Carrington Love and Jordan Fouse both tallied 11 points, the latter clearing a game-high 14 boards.

Aside from his 26.5 percent accuracy behind the 3-point line these days, there's little that Sykes hasn't done well for the Phoenix. Not only does he pace the team in scoring with 21.6 ppg, converting 83.8 percent at the free- throw line, he is also first in assists (44) and pitches in on the glass with more than two rebounds per game as well. Brown (12.8 ppg) and Fouse (5.0 ppg) have combined for 15.5 rpg and 48 of the team's 71 blocked shots.

Averaging almost eight rejections per contest, the Phoenix have one of the tougher interior defenses in college basketball at the moment, but they still need to pick up wins against opponents such as Tennessee Tech in order to convince the competition moving forward.
