NCAA Game Summary - Northern Iowa at Indiana State

(Saturday, March 1st)

Final Score: Northern Iowa 71, Indiana State 69

Terre Haute, IN (SportsNetwork.com) - Seth Tuttle was 9-of-12 from the floor and led all scorers with 23 points, as the Northern Iowa Panthers rallied for a 71-69 win over Indiana State in the Missouri Valley Conference regular- season finale for both teams at the Hulman Center.

Nate Buss recorded a double-double off the bench with 14 points and 11 rebounds, and fellow reserve Deon Mitchell added 10 points for the Panthers (16-14, 10-8 MVC), winners of five of their last six outings. With today's victory, UNI clinched the No. 3 seed for the upcoming conference tournament and will face Southern Illinois in Friday's quarterfinal round at the Scottrade Center.

Jake Odum led the way with 16 points for the Sycamores (21-9, 12-6), who suffered a third straight loss since their four-game win streak came to a halt. They will be the No. 2 seed for the league tourney. Khristian Smith had 15 points off the bench, while Manny Arop (11 rebounds) and Dawon Cummings each scored 10.

UNI went on a 14-2 first-half run to go up by 10 with just under nine minutes to play in the half, which marked its largest lead of the game. However, the Sycamores eventually took a 39-35 lead into the break thanks to a 16-3 spurt to close out the half.

The Panthers trailed by as many as 11 early in the second half before going on a 13-0 run to take a 48-46 lead with 14:35 to play in regulation. UNI was still leading by two in the final seconds when Odum grabbed a missed free throw by Tuttle and sprinted up the court, but his potential game-winning 3- pointer bounced off the rim as time expired.

UNI ended a streak of 19 straight games that it lost when trailing at the half. In addition, head coach Ben Jacobson tied Hon Nordly's school record for coaching wins at 166.
