Tulsa, OK (Sports Network) - Maurice Kemp finished with 23 points as the East
Carolina Pirates defeated the Tulsa Golden Hurricane, 72-63, in Conference USA
action at the Donald W. Reynolds Center.
Akeem Richmond chipped in 17 points off the bench for ECU (15-10, 6-6) as it
won for the second time in three games. Ty Armstrong contributed 13 points,
Paris Campbell tallied 10 points and nine boards and Miguel Paul dealt out 10
assists.
Scottie Haralson produced 20 points and nine rebounds for Tulsa (14-12, 6-6)
as it had its two-game winning streak snapped. Kauri Black scored 13 points
and Pat Swilling, Jr. chimed in with 11 points.
ECU led by 14 points on two separate occasions in the first half, but the
Golden Hurricane managed to narrow the deficit to go into the intermission
trailing, 34-29. Tulsa went into the break behind on the scoreboard despite
outscoring the visitors, 12-5, on second chance points.
Tulsa rallied back and built a 56-51 lead by the 6:41 of the second half. The
Pirates then went on a 10-0 run to take control for good. ECU shot only 36.7
percent from the floor in the second stanza, but it overcame the poor showing
from the field by converting 13-of-16 attempts at the charity stripe.
Despite the loss, Tulsa outscored ECU, 30-22, in the paint.
