NCAA Game Summary - Penn State at Northwestern

(Thursday, March 6th)

Final Score: Penn State 59, Northwestern 32

Evanston, IL (SportsNetwork.com) - Tim Frazier tallied 11 points, seven assists and five rebounds to help the Penn State Nittany Lions to a 59-32 victory over the Northwestern Wildcats in a Big Ten Conference tilt at Welsh- Ryan Arena.

D.J. Newbill scored a team-high 12 points for the Nittany Lions (15-15, 6-11 Big Ten) as they notched their second win in three games. Brandon Taylor added 11 points and Ross Travis grabbed 10 rebounds.

Alex Olah paced Northwestern (12-18, 5-12) with 14 points. Drew Crawford finished with just six points on 2-of-9 shooting from the floor, while Tre Demps made only one of his 10 field goal tries for five points. The loss was the seventh loss in a row for the Wildcats.

Olah gave the hosts a 2-0 lead with a made layup just over a minute after the opening tip, but Frazier scored the next four points to give PSU a lead it would not relinquish the rest of the way. The Nittany Lions outscored Northwestern, 18-4, in the paint in the opening period en route to a 32-15 lead at the intermission.

The Wildcats were limited to just 22.2 percent efficiency from the floor in the first half. Northwestern did not heat up after the break as it went just 4-of-16 from the field, including a 1-of-8 clip from 3-point range. PSU managed to extend its advantage on the scoreboard despite converting only 3- of-11 tries at the free-throw line in the second half.

The Nittany Lions assisted 15 of their 24 made field goal attempts. Northwestern sank only 9-of-21 shots at the charity stripe.
