Evanston, IL (SportsNetwork.com) - Daishon Knight and Zach Lofton both scored 15 points as the Illinois State Redbirds held on to defeat the Northwestern Wildcats, 68-64, in a non-conference battle at Welsh-Ryan Arena.

Also scoring in double figures for the Redbirds (1-2) were John Jones and Reggie Lynch with 11 and 10 points, respectively, while Michael Middlebrooks contributed with a team-best 11 rebounds before fouling out.

The Wildcats (1-2) were paced by JerShon Cobb who tallied 19 points, although he shot just 4-of-12 from the floor. Drew Crawford's 13 points were followed by 12 from Tre Demps.

Illinois State dominated in the first half, shooting 51.6 percent from the field and outscoring the hosts in the paint by a 24-12 margin, en route to a 40-22 advantage at the break. The Wildcats converted a mere seven field goals in the period.

In the second half it was Illinois State that struggled from the floor (8- of-28), allowing the Wildcats to battle back and challenge for the win before Tony Willis and Paris Lee connected on critical free throws in the final seconds.
