(Saturday, January 25th)

Final Score: Samford 62, Elon 59

Birmingham, AL (SportsNetwork.com) - Tim Williams tallied a double-double of 19 points and 10 rebounds, as the Samford Bulldogs held off the Elon Phoenix, 62-59, in Southern Conference action at the Pete Hanna Center.

Williams shot 7-of-10 from the field for Samford (9-13, 3-4 SoCon), which has won three of four. Raijon Kelly netted 11 points off the bench, while Tyler Hood added 10 points.

For Elon (10-11, 3-3), losers of three straight, Jack Isenbarger put up 16 points on 5-of-11 from 3-point range and Ryley Beaumont scored 13.

After outshooting Elon from the field in the opening stanza, 52 percent to 37.9 percent, Samford carried a 34-27 lead into halftime.

The Bulldogs extended their lead to as many as 13 early in the second half, but the Phoenix would not go quietly, as they climbed back to make it just a one-point game, 60-59, with 1:55 remaining on an Isenbarger four-point play. After Hood drained a pair of free-throws with 1:39 left to give Samford a three-point lead, neither team scored another point, with Sebastian Koch missing a potential game-tying 3-pointer at the buzzer for Elon.

Samford held on to win despite getting outscored from beyond the arc, 30-15.
