GAME NOTES: Horizon League foes who will be facing each other twice in a span of nine days, the Milwaukee Panthers get their first look at the Wright State Raiders tonight at the Nutter Center.

The Raiders were in action on Sunday, hitting the road where they were just 1-8 prior to meeting up with Cleveland State, but the squad broke through again as they claimed a narrow 49-46 win over the Vikings. The win was the third in the last four outings for the program.

Meanwhile, the Panthers fell to an even 3-3 in conference play on Saturday when they absorbed a 75-62 loss against Valparaiso on the road. Still, Milwaukee has already exceeded last year's win total after it finished a mere 8-24. With one more victory in conference play the Panthers will also surpass that total from 2012-13 as well (3-13).

In a relationship that dates back to 1977, the Panthers lead Wright State by just two games in the all-time series, 24-22. The teams are slated to meet up again on Milwaukee's home floor on Jan. 30.

If the Panthers thought they had a hard time finding the basket in the first half against Valpo on Saturday, hitting on only 35.5 percent, there's no way they could have been prepared for the final 20 minutes of the meeting when they converted just 9-of-31 (.290), including a dismal 2-of-16 behind the 3- point line. Matt Tiby scored a team-best 22 points and pulled down eight rebounds, followed by Jordan Aaron with 13 points in the losing cause.

Generating 72.7 ppg, while giving up 70.9 ppg on the season, the Panthers follow the lead set by Tiby with his 14.6 ppg on 47.4 percent shooting from the floor. He is also the leading scorer for the squad with 6.7 rpg, but still the Panthers are trailing the opposition on the glass by an average of 3.3 rpg. Aaron is responsible for 13.4 ppg and Kyle Kelm 12.3 ppg, the latter also lending a hand in the paint with 5.3 rpg, which should be more than enough reason for him to refrain from shooting too much from 3-point range where he is only 27.3 percent accurate.

Jerran Young scored 10 points off the bench as Wright State squeezed out a narrow win over Cleveland State two days ago. Young converted 4-of-9 shots from the floor for the Raiders, but he was the only player on the team to score in double figures. Matt Vest led the starters with nine points, while Cole Darling came up with eight rebounds and seven points, but shot just 1- of-9 from the field. Wright State, which led by as many as 13 points in the second half, shot a mere 1-of-10 behind the 3-point line in the period.

Through 21 games, the Raiders have only one player scoring in double figures on the average, with AJ Pacher putting up 10.4 ppg, thanks to 61.4 percent shooting from the floor. Also responsible for 4.9 rpg, Pacher's numbers could be even stronger if not for the fact that he has picked up enough personal fouls to be disqualified on six occasions. Luckily, Wright State's defense has held foes to 61.2 ppg and that's what has allowed the Raiders to come out ahead more often than not.

Wright State may be tough at home this season, but at the same time the Panthers know how to play well on the road, which should make for an interesting meeting in the Buckeye State tonight.
