NCAA Game Summary - Elon vs. Canisius

(Tuesday, November 19)

Final Score: Canisius 86, Elon 85

Piscataway, NJ (SportsNetwork.com) - Billy Baron poured in 21 points and drained the game-winning 3-pointer in the waning seconds to lead the Canisius Golden Griffins to an 86-85 victory over the Elon Phoenix as part of the NIT Season Tip-Off at the RAC.

Baron shot 6-of-12 from the field and 8-of-9 from the free-throw line for Canisius (2-2). Chris Perez added 17 points and three steals.

For Elon (2-3), Lucas Troutman and Luke Eddy paced all scorers with 23 points apiece. Tanner Samson netted 16 points, and Ryley Beaumont added 14 points.

Canisius started the game red-hot, as it shot greater than 70 percent from the floor in the first half and carried a 44-39 lead into intermission. Elon made just 40 percent of its field goal attempts in the opening stanza but managed to keep the game close by going 5-of-10 from 3-point range.

The Phoenix took control of the game early in the second half, as they ripped off a 15-0 run to take a double-digit lead with under 10 minutes to play. The Griffs chipped away down the stretch and found themselves down by two with 10 seconds left when Eddy turned the ball over for the Phoenix, which led to Baron's game-winning 3-pointer on the other end to lift Canisius to the dramatic victory.

The game consisted of 10 ties and seven lead changes. Elon went scoreless over the final 2:43.
