GAME NOTES: The Hawaii Rainbow Warriors are heading to the mainland for the first time this season, as they clash with the Missouri Tigers in non- conference action at the Sprint Center in Kansas City this evening.

The Rainbow Warriors tipped off the 2013-14 campaign with back-to-back victories over Tennessee State (85-55) and Western Michigan (78-68) in order to capture the Rainbow Classic. However, the team's first setback of the season came on Tuesday when they bowed to former Western Athletic Conference foe New Mexico State, 95-88.

Meanwhile, the Tigers have yet to taste defeat this season, winning the first two games on the schedule by double figures. First, Missouri delivered a knockout blow to Southeastern Louisiana in convincing fashion, 89-53, and then got by Southern Illinois, 72-59, a few nights ago.

In terms of the all-time series, Missouri holds a 4-1 advantage over the Rainbow Warriors. The most recent victory for the Tigers came in 1995 as part of the Rainbow Classic, a 95-89 final in Honolulu.

Garrett Nevels scored a game-high 26 points, shooting 8-of-16 from the field and 4-of-6 behind the 3-point line against New Mexico State earlier this week, but even that effort was not enough to keep the Rainbow Warriors from falling into the loss column. Isaac Fotu tallied 20 points and pulled down nine rebounds, followed by reserve Quincy Smith with 15 points before fouling out as the team forced 18 turnovers, but at the same time allowed the Aggies to shoot 57.7 percent from the field.

Fotu leads the team in scoring with his 16.7 ppg, shooting 51.4 percent from the floor while adding a team-best 9.0 rpg as well. Christian Standhardinger accounts for 15.3 ppg and 7.0 rpg, even after an unimpressive effort the last time out. The squad is producing a hefty 83.7 ppg, but that number should be coming down as the season wears on.

Against visiting SIU a few nights ago, the Tigers relied on Jordan Clarkson to get them over the hump and he delivered with a game-high 31 points on 12-of-18 shooting from the floor, not to mention accounting for half of their 10 assists. Jabari Brown chipped in 17 points and seven rebounds, while Earnest Ross tallied 11 points and cleared six boards of his own for a team that held the Salukis to only 6-of-20 shooting behind the 3-point line and watched the visitors convert just 3-of-9 at the charity stripe.

A 56.7 percent shooter from the floor, Clarkson paces the program with 22.5 ppg, followed by Brown and Ross who contribute 18.0 and 11.5 ppg, respectively. Shooting an even 50.0 percent from the field and 46.3 percent out on the perimeter, the Tigers are generating 80.5 ppg, compared to a mere 56.0 ppg for the competition.

In the same manner that Hawaii will coming back to reality with regard to its offensive production, so too will the Tigers, but still Missouri will post the necessary points to pick up the victory this weekend.
