GAME NOTES: Fresh off a thrilling win on Friday night, the Columbia Lions take aim at another victory when they face the Penn Quakers in an Ivy League tussle at The Palestra.

Columbia narrowly edged Princeton, 53-52, to get the weekend started on the right foot last night. The win stopped a two-game skid for the Lions, who are 14-8 overall and 3-2 in conference play. However, Friday's win was just their third on the road this season. Next weekend they will host Harvard and Dartmouth.

Penn has had more trouble stringing wins together this season, although it did collect a 90-83 victory over Cornell on Friday. The win ended a two-game losing streak for the Quakers, who are still just 5-13 overall, although they are an even 2-2 in conference play. They will visit Yale and Brown next weekend.

Last season, these teams split the season series, with the home team coming out on top in each bout. The Quakers still lead the all-time series, 137-86, with 50 wins in the last 66 encounters.

Meiko Lyles knocked down a 3-pointer with 28 seconds to play, which proved to be the decisive blow for Columbia in its win over Princeton last night. The Lions only shot a 40.4 percent clip in the contest, but they grabbed nine offensive rebounds and controlled the boards by a 31-27 count overall.

Alex Rosenberg (14.3 ppg) continued his reign as Columbia's leading scorer against Princeton, as he scored 19 points as the only player to reach double figures. Rosenberg has now scored in double figures in 17 straight games after failing to do so in four of the first five. Maodo Lo (13.7 ppg) and Grant Mullins (12.5 ppg) supplement Rosenberg's scoring as the team's two other double-digit scorers. The duo combined for 15 points on just 6-of-18 shooting against Princeton. All totaled, Columbia is netting just 68.3 ppg while shooting nearly 45 percent from the floor.

Tony Hicks poured in 27 points and Fran Dougherty recorded a double-double consisting of 17 points and 10 rebounds as Penn held off Cornell on Friday night. The Quakers shot an impressive 61.1 percent from the field in the contest, while also sinking 21-of-28 attempts at the free-throw line.

Despite having one of the worst overall records in the Ivy League, the Quakers are actually performing solidly on offense in comparison to the rest of the conference. They are ranked fourth in scoring (71 ppg), while shooting just under 45 percent from the field. However, their defensive effort has not been as strong, with foes netting 77.8 ppg. Hicks (15.4 ppg) is the top scorer on a team that features four players averaging in double figures. Miles Cartwright (12.2 ppg), Dougherty (12 ppg, 7.2 rpg) and Darien Nelson-Henry (11.2 ppg) are all reliable options, but there is not much depth beyond those four.

It took some last-second heroics and an erratic shooting performance from Princeton for Columbia to earn a win on Friday. Penn may not have been a stellar team in non-conference play, but it has held its own since the beginning of the league schedule. Expect the Quakers to come away with a win.

Sports Network Predicted Outcome: Penn 66, Columbia 62
