GAME NOTES: Big 12 Conference rivals are set to square off at the Erwin Center, as the Texas Longhorns play host to the Oklahoma Sooners.

Oklahoma has grabbed some momentum of late with wins in four of its last five outings. The latest of those victories came this past Saturday against Baylor, 90-76.

Texas has split its last four contests and is coming off Saturday's 81-69 home loss to Kansas State. Although the Longhorns are toward the very bottom of the Big 12 standings, 10 of their 12 wins this season have come inside the Erwin Center.

OU leads the all-time series, 48-34, and that includes a 73-67 victory over the Longhorns last month in Norman. However, UT has won seven consecutive home games against the Sooners.

Sooners' senior Sam Grooms sank 15-of-17 free throws en route to a career-high 23 points against Baylor. It marked the second time in three games that the increasingly confident Grooms set a personal-best in the scoring column. Steven Pledger added 19 points, 17 of which came in the first half as OU built up a commanding 47-21 halftime lead. Romero Osby and Je'lon Hornbreak rounded out the Sooners in double figures with 17 and 13 points, respectively. The Sooners marched early and often to the free-throw line, where they converted 39-of-45 attempts (.867) for the game. Osby is a 79-percent free-throw shooter on the season and gets to the charity stripe often (114-of-144). He leads the team in both scoring (14.3 ppg) and rebounding (7.1 rpg), while Pledger (11.6 ppg) and Amath M'Baye (10.3 ppg, 5.7 rpg) are also averaging double figures.

The Longhorns' sub-.500 record can be attributed partly to their 2-7 record in games decided by six points or less or in overtime. However, Saturday's meeting with No. 13 Kansas State was no such occasion, as the Wildcats led by as many as 19 midway through the second half. They also connected on 9-of-18 3-pointers against a UT squad that ranks fourth in the country in 3-point field-goal percentage defense (.277). Point guard Myck Kabongo paced the Longhorns with a career-high 24 points in the loss, while teammate Sheldon McClellan scored 15 off the bench. Kabongo has averaged a team-best 15.5 points in four games since he returned from a 23-game NCAA suspension. McClellan (13.7 ppg) and Julien Lewis (10.3 ppg) are the team's other double- digit scorers on the season, while freshman Ioannis Papapetrou has averaged 11.2 points and 5.0 rebounds over the last 12 contests and continues to shoot well from the perimeter (.370).

OU snapped a six-game slide against Texas when these teams met up last month. However, that game was played in Norman, whereas they are winless in their last seven tries in Austin. This time around, the Longhorns will also have Kabongo running the point.
