GAME NOTES: The Ohio University Bobcats will have a chance to gain some separation from the middle of the congested Mid-American Conference standings on Saturday, as they take on the Miami-Ohio RedHawks at the Convocation Center.

Ohio was defeated by Western Michigan on Wednesday, 90-74, with the loss bringing dropping it into a three-way tie with the Broncos and Buffalo for third place in the MAC standings. The Bobcats, who are still just a game out of first place, are 16-6 overall, including its 6-3 league mark. Next up they will visit Toledo and Buffalo in two important bouts.

Miami is only a game back of Ohio in the conference standings, with a record of 5-4 against the rest of the league. However, the RedHawks have lost two of their last three games and are currently 9-11 overall. They will play four of their next five at home, beginning on Wednesday against Buffalo.

Ohio swept the season series with the RedHawks for the second straight year in 2012-13. As a result, the Bobcats lead the all-time series by a count of 100-91.

Joshua Oswald scored 10 points as the only player in double figures for Miami as it was defeated 53-41 by Northern Illinois on Wednesday. The RedHawks had only 15 field goals in the contest, during which they shot 30 percent from the floor, including a woeful 1-of-15 effort from 3-point range.

Miami is prone to shortcomings at the offensive end. The RedHawks are only netting 65.8 ppg, while shooting at a 43.9 percent clip from the field. Will Felder (14.2 ppg, 7.2 rpg) does his best to keep the team afloat, leading in scoring and rebounding, while finishing on 53.8 percent of his attempts from the floor. However, Felder gets very little help, with Geovonie McKnight (9.8 ppg) and Will Sullivan (9.2 ppg) the next best scoring threats. None of the three had much luck against Northern Illinois, as they combined to score 16 points.

There was quite a bit more offense in Ohio's tilt with Western Michigan. However, the Bobcats lost despite shooting 51.9 percent from the floor, which included an 11-of-23 showing from beyond the arc. Ball control hurt Ohio in the setback, as it was outscored 24-7 off of turnovers.

Maurice Ndour (15.5 ppg, 7.9 rpg) is one of two double-digit scorers for the Bobcats, who rank third in the MAC in both scoring (71.9 ppg) and field goal percentage (.448). Ndour, who also leads the team in rebounds, finished with 20 points and six boards in the loss to Western Michigan. He has now scored at least 20 points in three straight games, following a seven-point performance against Eastern Michigan. Nick Kellogg (14.5 ppg) is the other half of Ohio's top scoring duo. He tacked on 13 points and five assists against WMU, but he only sank 6-of-14 shots from the field.

There may be more balance on offense for Miami, but there is more substance for the Bobcats. Expect Ohio to bounce back rather easily in this matchup.
