GAME NOTES: Big 12 Conference cellar-dwellers are set for a Saturday afternoon showdown, as the Texas Tech Red Raiders welcome the TCU Horned Frogs to United Spirit Arena in Lubbock.

TCU has just one Big 12 win under its belt this season (albeit a spectacular one), taking down Kansas on Feb. 6, but it has otherwise been a dreadful first season in its new conference. The Horned Frogs are in the midst of a six-game losing streak, with their most recent setback coming at home against nationally-ranked Oklahoma State on Wednesday night, 64-47.

Texas Tech's 8-4 start to the season seems like a lifetime ago, as it has since dropped 13 of its last 14 games, including nine in a row to plummet to 9-17 overall and ninth place in the Big 12 at a mere 2-13. The Red Raiders' losing streak continued on Monday night as they went into Bramlage Coliseum and suffered a 75-55 defeat at the hands of nationally-ranked Kansas State.

Texas Tech had lost three of four against TCU before claiming a 62-53 decision in Fort Worth on Jan. 5. The Red Raiders own a 73-47 lead in the all-time series.

Even at home, TCU was no match for Oklahoma State earlier this week, as it shot a woeful 27.3 percent from the field in the 17-point loss. Kyan Anderson shot 6-of-12 from the field (including 3-of-7 from 3-point range) for 15 points, while Devonta Abron tallied 12 points and nine rebounds off the bench. Adrick McKinney had an off night shooting (1-of-8), but he was solid down low with eight rebounds and two blocks. Not only do the Horned Frogs own the lowest-rated scoring offense in the Big 12 with 53.7 ppg, but only Grambling and Howard boast more futile scoring efforts in all of Division I. Their consistently low point totals have spoiled all the positive work they've done at the defensive end (61.2 ppg). Anderson is the lone player to score in double figures on a nightly basis with 11.3 ppg, and he also adds team-bests in assists (93) and steals (43). McKinney, Abron and Connell Crossland are all strong rebounders, grabbing between 5.6 and 6.4 rpg.

Surprisingly, Texas Tech hung tough for much of its game on Monday night, even leading by two with 14:20 left, but from there Kansas State took control by finishing the game on a 33-11 run. The Red Raiders shot a solid 45.8 percent from the field, but it was lackluster from the foul line (6-of-12) and allowed K-State to make nearly 51 percent of its shots overall. Dusty Hannahs led the way with 14 points, while Jaye Crockett came off the bench to net 13. In addition to scoring a modest 65.7 ppg, the Red Raiders also own the Big 12's worst scoring defense (72.4 ppg), and they get outshot from the field, 46.3 percent to 41.9 percent. Crockett has been a fantastic reserve player, leading the team with 12.3 ppg and 7.0 rpg while shooting greater than 51 percent from the floor. Josh Gray nets 9.7 ppg and is among the league leaders in steals (2.1 spg), while Jordan Tolbert (9.0 ppg, 5.6 rpg) and Dejan Kravic (8.5 ppg, 4.9 rpg, 1.3 bpg) are both solid pieces in the frontcourt.

In an otherwise strong Big 12, both teams have proven to be a cut below the rest. With Texas Tech's porous defense, TCU is bound to score more points than it is used to, but at home, the Red Raiders should be able to get back on track against the hapless Horned Frogs.
