GAME NOTES: The Manhattan Jaspers have won three of their last four games, and will try to build on their conference-leading record when they host the Quinnipiac Bobcats in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference action at Draddy Gymnasium.

Quinnipiac had a two-game win streak snapped Friday when the Bobcats fell to Iona, 95-73, in MAAC competition. The Bobcats and Gaels were fighting to get to 7-2 in the conference, which put the winner in a three-way tie for the conference lead.

Manhattan is one of those three teams among the conference leaders at 7-2. The Jaspers defeated Rider Friday, 67-51, to pull even with Canisius and Iona for the lead.

Quinnipiac and Manhattan have met only once before - earlier this season in an 81-76 Bobcats victory in Hamden. This will be the first time the Bobcats have traveled to Draddy Gymnasium.

Quinnipiac couldn't do much to keep Iona from scoring at will Friday night in the Bobcats' loss. Iona had three players register at least 20 points in the 22-point drubbing of the Bobcats. Ike Azotam led Quinnipiac in scoring with 18 points, and also pulled down 16 rebounds for the double-double. Umar Shannon netted 15 points in the loss, while both Shaq Shannon and Evan Conti chipped in 10 points.

Azotam leads the team in scoring this season with 16.4 ppg on 48 percent shooting from the floor. The Bobcats as a unit are netting 77.2 ppg, and giving up 73.7 ppg to their opponents. Umar Shannon and Zaid Hearst are second and third, respectively, on Quinnipiac in scoring with 13.4 and 13.3 ppg. Azotam averages a double-double this season with 11.7 rpg.

Rider proved to be no match for Manhattan at Draddy Gym Friday night, as the Jaspers held the Broncs to 26.5 percent shooting from the field in the contest. George Beamon scored 21 points and grabbed nine rebounds to pace Manhattan in the win. Michael Alvarado scored 12 points and Ashton Pankey contributed 11 to the cause. The Jaspers hit 42.6 percent of their shots on the night.

Beamon and Alvarado have separated themselves from the rest of the Jaspers in terms of scoring numbers this season. Beamon checks in at 20.1 ppg, one of the best in the conference, and Alvarado nets 14.1 ppg. Beamon tops the Jaspers this season in rebounding as well, with a 6.8 rpg mark. Alvarado holds the distinction of team best in assists with 71. Rhamel Brown has been a force underneath the basket defensively, recording 66 blocked shots thus far.

It will be interesting to see how quickly Quinnipiac can recover from the loss to Iona. The Bobcats recorded the head-to-head win earlier this season, but at Draddy Gym the Jaspers have the big advantage.

Sports Network Predicted Outcome: Manhattan 80, Quinnipiac 72
