GAME NOTES: Two teams near the bottom of the Colonial Athletic Association standings square off on Monday night, as the Hofstra Pride battle the James Madison Dukes at the JMU Convocation Center.

Hofstra put a stop to a lengthy losing streak on Saturday by posting a 61-52 victory over UNC-Wilmington. The Pride had lost five straight prior to that triumph. They are 8-17 overall and tied with the College of Charleston for sixth place in the league standings (4-6). Hofstra will visit Drexel next.

On the other side, James Madison is in the midst of its own losing streak, having suffered a 78-60 setback against Drexel on Saturday for it third straight defeat. The Dukes are 8-16 overall, while above only UNCW in the conference standings with a mark of 3-7. They will visit first-place Delaware next.

This is the first of two scheduled meetings between these squads, with the second set for the regular-season finale on March 1. The Dukes won the only meeting between them last season, but Hofstra leads the all-time series, 13-6.

Hofstra really attacked the offensive glass in its recent win over UNCW. The Pride collected 32 rebounds, 10 of which were at the offensive end, leading to a 15-2 scoring advantage in second-chance points. They also allowed only five field goals to the Seahawks in the second half to rally from a 35-21 deficit at intermission.

The Pride have not scored well this season. They are netting just 67.2 ppg and connecting on 41.9 percent of their shots from the floor. On defense, they allow 72.4 ppg on 45.4 percent shooting. Zeke Upshaw (18.8 ppg) anchors the squad as one of only two double-digit scorers, Dion Nesmith (13.2 ppg, 4.1 apg) being the other. Upshaw scored 16 points against UNCW and Nesmith finished with 13 points, five assists and four steals. Jamall Robinson (9.1 ppg) can also produce, but he is only connecting on 38.2 percent from the field. Stephen Nwaukoni (6.4 ppg, 8.5 rpg) doesn't score much but he is a solid performer on the glass.

James Madison struggled to find its rhythm in the recent loss to Drexel. The Dukes only connected on 37.2 percent of their field goal tries, while being outscored in the paint (34-16) and off turnovers (17-6). Charles Cooke scored 18 points to pace the losing effort.

Just like Hofstra, James Madison rarely excels on offense. The Dukes are last in the CAA in scoring (62.6 ppg), while shooting at a 41.7 percent clip from the floor. The major issue is ball movement, as the Dukes are among the five worst teams in the country when it comes to assists (8.9 apg). Andre Nation (17 ppg) missed much of the beginning of the season, but has been stellar since his return, although he sat out the Drexel game due to a personal issue. Cooke (14.7 ppg) is the second option, shooting 43.8 percent from the floor. Ron Curry (11.7 ppg) and Andrey Semenov (11 ppg) also lend a hand in support.

Assuming Nation, who is listed as probable for this contest, is able to play, the Dukes should be able to pull out a victory in what promises to be a game where offense will be at a premium.

Sports Network Predicted Outcome: James Madison 67, Hofstra 61
