NCAA Game Summary - Davidson at Duke

(Friday, November 8th)

Final Score: (4) Duke 111, Davidson 77

Durham, NC (SportsNetwork.com) - Freshman phenom Jabari Parker poured in 22 points in his Duke debut, as the fourth-ranked Blue Devils defeated Davidson, 111-77, in the season opener for both teams at Cameron Indoor Stadium.

Parker, regarded as the second-best prospect in the nation behind Kansas' Andrew Wiggins, connected on 8-of-10 shots from the floor, including all three of his 3-point tries, while adding six rebounds in the victory.

"The first win is very important," Parker said. "We can build blocks from there. I think that we build a good foundation right now, and we just keep on going and try to build the biggest tower that we can."

Sophomore Rodney Hood, who sat out last season after transferring from Mississippi State to Duke in July of 2012, matched Parker with 22 points and pulled down nine boards for the Blue Devils (1-0), who have won 102 straight home games against non-conference opponents.

Duke, which won 30 games a year ago and advanced to the NCAA Tournament's Elite Eight, shot a scorching 70.4 percent from the field, including a 13- of-21 mark from beyond the arc in the triumph.

"That was a rather impressive display of offensive fire power," Davidson head coach Bob McKillop said of the Blue Devils. "Their ability to do things with the dribble and off the catch, and in as many spots as they did, it's pretty darn impressive."

De'Mon Brooks paced Davidson (0-1) with 24 points and Tom Droney donated 16 points for the Wildcats, who advanced to the NCAA Tournament for a second straight season last year before losing to Marquette in the second round.

Davidson kept it close early, trailing just 19-15 under seven minutes in, but the Blue Devils used a 19-4 surge over the next five-plus minutes to build a double-digit advantage.

Hood started the spurt with a jumper, while Rasheed Sulaimon and Parker each added a 3-pointer before Tyler Thornton capped the run with a three-point play to make it 38-19 with 7:45 left in the first half.

Parker finished the first half 5-for-5 from the field for 16 points, culminating in a pair of free throws that sent Duke into the break with a 59-39 advantage.

Duke held Davidson at bay throughout the second half, never allowing the Wildcats to get closer than 17 over the final 20 minutes as the Blue Devils cruised to the double-digit victory.
