South Orange, NY (Sports Network) - Jordan Theodore scored a game-high 21 points as the top-seeded Seton Hall Pirates held off the Stony Brook Seawolves 63-61 in the first round of the National Invitation Tournament at Walsh Gymnasium.

Herb Pope tallied 20 points and nine boards for Seton Hall (21-12), while Aaron Cosby added 10 points.

For Stony Brook (22-10), Dallis Joyner led the way with 14 points. Marcus Rouse scored 13 points, Bryan Dougher chipped in 12 points, and Tommy Brenton grabbed 13 rebounds for the Seawolves.

Seton Hall shot 52.2 percent from the floor in the first half, while Stony Brook made only 39.3 percent of its field goals, but the Pirates took just a 32-30 lead into halftime.

The Seawolves went on a 9-1 run early in the second half to take a 39-36 lead with 16:03 to play, but the Pirates took control again and held a 53-46 advantage mid-way through the stanza. Seton Hall kept the lead down the stretch, but Stony Brook got the deficit to within two, 63-61, with 19 seconds left. A Dougher three-pointer in the final seconds was off the mark for the Seawolves. Brenton caught the rebound and put up a tip-in attempt as the buzzer sounded, but the ball rimmed out and Seton Hall earned the victory.

The Pirates won despite getting dominated on the glass, 44-23.

Seton Hall will take on Massachusetts in the second round, which defeated Mississippi State in double overtime in its first round matchup.
