GAME NOTES: The Siena Saints are in New Jersey this afternoon for the first of back-to-back road games, as they challenge the Rider Broncs in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference action at Alumni Gym.

Siena, which has a date at Quinnipiac looming this coming week and then closes out the regular season at home next Sunday versus Monmouth, managed to snap a two-game losing streak two nights ago with a 67-63 upset of Manhattan at home. With the victory, Siena moved to 8-9 in conference play.

Meanwhile, the Broncs are ahead of the Saints in the MAAC standings with a 9-8 record, even though they bowed to Iona on Friday night in an 80-77 final. The setback was the fourth in the last five games for Rider.

Since the series began between the teams back in 1976-77, the Saints have taken 26 of the 39 matchups, including a 62-47 final in the first meeting of this season early last month.

Rob Poole and Evan Hymes both tallied 17 points on Friday night during the win over Manhattan, the latter also becoming the 39th player in Siena history to reach the 1,000-point plateau for his career. As a unit, the Saints converted just 37.3 percent from the floor in the meeting, but the defense managed to force 16 turnovers and the hosts also benefited greatly from the Jaspers sinking a woeful 19-of-42 at the free-throw line.

Scoring a decent 70.0 ppg, the Saints have a handful of performers who can be counted on for significant scoring efforts, led by Poole with his 15.4 ppg and followed by Brett Bisping who has used his 54.5 percent accuracy from the floor to come away with 10.0 ppg. A physical team for sure, Siena has produced 39 disqualifications, 10 of those being logged by Lavon Long (9.3 ppg, 4.8 rpg).

Rider trailed by as many as 14 points in the second half against Iona a couple nights ago, but made things more interesting in the final moments as the Broncs closed to three by game's end. Jimmie Taylor led four players in double figures with 19 points, followed by Daniel Stewart with 15 and eight boards, while Anthony Myles and Zedric Sadler tacked on 14 and 12 points, respectively, for a team that shot only 10-of-20 at the free-throw line in a close call.

In the last three games, the Broncs have had a different leading scorer each time out, but for the season overall the honor goes to Myles with his 16.6 ppg, although right on his heels is Stewart with 15.4 ppg, thanks in large part to his 85.2 percent accuracy at the free-throw line. Stewart is first on the glass with 6.1 rpg, and yet he is also one of the more accurate 3-point shooters at 41.4 percent.

Both of these teams could stand to put one in the win column right now, but it seems as though Rider might be a solid pick given the scoring balance that the Broncs can bring to the table when all is going right on offense.

Sports Network Predicted Outcome: Rider 74, Siena 68
