GAME NOTES: Off to one of the best starts in program history, the George Washington Colonials aim for their sixth consecutive victory this afternoon when they tangle with the Hofstra Pride in a non-conference affair.

The 10-1 start by the Colonials is on pace with the 2005-06 squad that won 26 of its first 27 contests. It also matches the 1992-93 team for the seventh- best start in the program's 100-year history. A win today would mark the longest victory streak for GW since taking eight in a row to finish the 2006-07 regular season and win the Atlantic 10 tourney title.

George Washington was a 74-61 winner over UMBC a week ago. Maurice Creek had 22 points to pace the Colonials. Kethan Savage and Kevin Larsen added 15 and 14 points, respectively. GW shot 52.8 percent from the field.

This will mark just the second game in 17 days for the Colonials, who are averaging 78.5 ppg and are shooting 40.7 percent from 3-point range. All five of GW's starters are averaging better than nine points a game, and four of them are in double figures. Creek leads the squad with 16.3 points and he's made an impressive 46.9 percent (30-of-64) of his 3-point shots. Savage (14.0 ppg), Isaiah Armwood (12.2 ppg, 7.5 rpg), Larsen (10.0 ppg) and Joe McDonald (9.1 ppg, 4.6 apg) round out the starting five for a team that will make the second of four trips to the Big Apple this season, The Colonials won by six points at Manhattan on Nov. 16.

Hofstra suffered a 67-59 loss at Siena on Monday. Jamall Robinson tallied a game-high 16 points, followed by Chris Jenkins and Dion Nesmith with 11 points apiece off the bench for the Pride, who suffered their fourth loss in five games. Zeke Upshaw, who entered the contest leading the team in scoring with 19.9 ppg, finished with a mere seven points as he shot a dismal 2-of-17 from the floor, which included a 1-of-10 showing behind the 3-point line.

Upshaw is still averaging 18.6 points and 4.4 rebounds. Nesmith (13.1 ppg) and Robinson (10.0 ppg) are the only other players averaging double figures for a team that has struggled out on the perimeter (.326).

The Colonials pounded Hofstra, 80-56, last season at the Smith Center. GW shot 62 percent from the field and was paced by Armwood's 12 points, 10 boards and five blocks. Expect the strong offensive balance and defensive pressure by the Colonials to be too much for the Pride. Hofstra averages 13.3 turnovers a game and that could play a big role in GW winning this contest by double digits.
