NCAA Game Summary - West Virginia at Texas

(Saturday, February 15th)

Final Score: (19) Texas 88, West Virginia 71

Austin, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - Javan Felix scored 18 points to lead No. 19 Texas in an 88-71 rout of West Virginia on Saturday.

All five Longhorns (20-5, 9-3 Big 12) starters scored in double-digits as Cameron Ridley had 17, Isaiah Taylor 14 and Jonathan Holmes and Demarcus Holland each finished with 11.

"Today we came in and we were maybe as engaged as we've ever been. It was fun watching what they did at full speed. I thought we did a lot of good things - the things we talked about in the game plan. We moved the ball. We really had good ball movement," said Texas coach Rick Barnes.

Holland also had seven assists and five rebounds while Holmes pulled in seven boards for Texas, which has won its past two since a loss to Kansas State.

Eron Harris scored 21 points while Juwan Staten had 14 points, seven assists and six rebounds for the Mountaineers (15-11, 7-6), who have dropped two of their last three.

"We missed some shots. We did not respond the way we needed to respond. We couldn't or wouldn't guard, you cannot let people shoot that well when you are not making any shots," said WVU coach Bob Huggins. "We have to be more resilient. When things do not go your way you don't stop playing, you play harder."

West Virginia kept pace with Texas over the first 8 1/2 minutes and held a 14-11 lead after Terry Henderson hit a free throw for a 4-point play, but Texas scored the next eight points, capped on consecutive jumpers from Ridley for a 19-14 lead with nine minutes to play in the first half.

Henderson stopped the bleeding with a jumper, but the Longhorns scored the next nine points with Felix hitting a 3 for a 28-16 lead.

West Virginia scored the final five points of the first half to cut its deficit to 40-29 at the break.

The Mountaineers got a quick five points to start the second half on a bucket from Devin Williams and 3-pointer from Harris, but the Longhorns got the next eight points to regain a 14-point margin.

West Virginia was never able to cut significantly into its deficit, as Texas held a double-digit lead through the remainder of the game.
