GAME NOTES: The Dayton Flyers will try to correct a two-game conference losing streak as they travel to face the Rhode Island Rams in Atlantic 10 action at the Ryan Center.

Dayton has lost two in a row and three of its last four, all in conference play. The Flyers are 13-6 overall, but sit three and a half games back in the A-10 standings with a 1-3 conference record. Their most recent loss came at the hands of VCU, 80-66, on Wednesday.

After an exciting overtime win against George Mason, Rhode Island got back in a losing rhythm with a 61-57 loss at Saint Joseph's on Wednesday. The Rams have now lost four of their last five contests - like Dayton, all in A-10 play. Rhode Island is trying to improve a 1-4 conference record.

The all-time series is split between these two programs, 12-12. Dayton, however, has lost the last six meetings between the Atlantic 10 rivals, and eight of the last nine in the series.

Dayton and VCU exchanged a lead five times in the first half of their clash Wednesday before VCU went on a run to take a 36-17 halftime lead. The closest Dayton would come to touching the lead was five points before the Rams cruised to an 80-66 victory. Devin Oliver led the Flyers with 21 points on 5-of-10 shooting from the floor, and added a perfect 9-of-9 from the free-throw line. Dyshawn Pierre scored 14 points in the losing effort.

Pierre and Jordan Sibert are tied for the Dayton lead this season in scoring average, each contributing 11.9 ppg. Pierre connects on 53.2 percent of his shots from the floor this year, while Sibert hits 46.3 percent. Oliver isn't far behind at all, netting 11.8 ppg with a team-best 7 rpg. Oliver is also the team's leader in assists with 47 total on the season. The Flyers have averaged 75.5 ppg through their 19 contests.

Rhode Island ran into a very hot Saint Joseph's team Wednesday, but stayed competitive all the way through the final buzzer, eventually dropping a 61-57 contest. Xavier Munford led the Rams with 16 points in the game with eight rebounds and a team-high six turnovers. Gilvydas Biruta was the only other Rhode Island player to net a double-digit point total, scoring 11 before fouling out. The Rams shot 38.6 percent from the floor in the game, including a dismal 18.8 percent from 3-point range.

Munford leads the Rhode Island squad this season in scoring, averaging 16.3 ppg on 37.2 percent shooting from the floor. E.C. Matthews is second with 11.4 ppg, and Biruta is third at 10.9 ppg. Biruta tops the Rams with a 7 rpg average. Rhode Island is averaging 66.5 ppg through 20 games played, but gives up slightly more than that at 67 ppg surrendered.

History doesn't appear to be on Dayton's side in this matchup, and the fact that it's in Rhode Island's home gym certainly plays away from Dayton's favor. The Rams should take this one, but the two squads will meet again this season on Feb. 12 in Dayton.

Sports Network Predicted Outcome: Rhode Island 68, Dayton 62
