GAME NOTES: The Oakland Golden Grizzlies try to shake up the Horizon League, as they drop in on the Green Bay Phoenix tonight at the Resch Center.

Unfortunately for Oakland, which is just 2-3 in conference play, the team is a mere 1-9 in true road games with the lone victory coming against a Detroit squad 11 days ago. The Grizzlies followed up that rare triumph with an 86-76 setback versus Cleveland State last Thursday at the Wolstein Center.

Meanwhile, the Phoenix are at the top of the heap in the Horizon, still with an unblemished league mark of 5-0. The squad is enjoying an unprecedented 10- game win streak, stretching back to the second week of December. Most recently, Green Bay slipped by the Illinois-Chicago Flames on Sunday, 69-64, to finish off a four-game road swing.

The 10-game run for the Phoenix is the longest for the program since the 1995-96 campaign.

According to Oakland sources, the all-time series is currently knotted at three games apiece. The teams will reconnect next month in Michigan at the O'rena.

In a game that featured 10 ties and 13 lead changes, Oakland was ahead by as many as eight points with just under eight minutes to play in regulation, but a wild 20-point swing down the stretch left the Golden Grizzlies with the double-digit setback. Tommie McCune tallied 23 points and eight rebounds in 28 minutes off the bench, while Corey Petros registered a double-double consisting of 15 points and 13 rebounds. Kahlil Felder filled out his stat line with 10 points, six assists and five boards in the losing cause as well.

Against the Vikings, Travis Bader sank just one of his 10 field goal tries, finishing with a mere six points, but still he leads the Grizzlies in scoring on the season with his 19.7 ppg. Of his 111 made field goals through 20 games, all but 25 have come from 3-point range, while his 93.4 percent accuracy at the free-throw line is one of the top marks in all of college basketball. Petros (14.0 ppg) paces the group with 8.7 rpg, while Felder (8.5 ppg) has countered his mere 36.2 percent shooting with 102 assists.

Alec Brown scored a game-high 23 points as the Green Bay Phoenix captured a five-point win over the Flames of Illinois-Chicago in Horizon League action at UIC Pavilion. Also scoring in double figures for Green Bay was Keifer Sykes with 21 points, 19 of which came in the second half. The Phoenix led by as many as 10 in the first half and held a 33-29 edge at the break, yet fell behind by eight in the second half before mounting a successful comeback bid against a UIC squad that was still winless in conference play.

Sykes continues to be one of the most explosive offensive threats in the conference with his 20.4 ppg, but he is so much more than a scorer. In addition to pacing Green Bay in points, Sykes is also tops with 95 assists, almost twice as many as his closest teammate. Handling action in the paint are Jordan Fouse (8.1 rpg) and Brown (6.3 rpg), the latter posting 17.0 ppg and also placing among the nation's leaders with 60 blocked shots.

Even if we assume Bader will bounce back from an awful display the last time out, Oakland still doesn't have the manpower to handle Green Bay in the paint, nor can it keep up with Sykes when he gets hot.

Sports Network Predicted Outcome: Green Bay 73, Oakland 65
