GAME NOTES: Sporting the best record in the East Division of the Mid-American Conference, the Akron Zips pay a visit to the Bowling Green Falcons this evening to try and improve on their advantage.

Not only are the Zips wanting to stay above the fray in the division, they are also aiming to become the 55th Division I program with 1,500 victories as well. Dating back to 1901-02, Akron has produced a record of 1,499-966, thanks in small part to a 52-48 win over Eastern Michigan earlier this week at home. The win was the fourth in the last five outings for the program.

The Falcons are also in the hunt for a significant victory over the next few weeks, needing three more wins to reach 1,300. Not only that, head coach Louis Orr, now in his seventh campaign, needs just one more victory to reach 100 with BGSU as well as 200 for his career.

Unfortunately for the Falcons, they seem to be moving in the wrong direction at the moment, having lost three of the last four outings. On Wednesday night, the program was taken out by Toledo in an 83-76 decision on the road, dropping it a game below .500 in MAC play at 4-5.

Akron holds a 27-24 advantage in the all-time series, thanks in part to a nine-game win streak over the Falcons. The last win for BGSU was a 50-46 final in Akron back on Mar. 1, 2009.

The Zips were limited to just 18 points in the first half at Rhodes Arena on Wednesday night, but the team bowed back with a more aggressive offensive effort and also clamped down on Eastern Michigan in order to bring home the win. Demetrius Treadwell registered a sizeable double-double with 17 points and 14 rebounds, while Nick Harney had a double-double of his own with 15 points and 10 boards, yet the Zips claimed just a 34-33 edge on the glass in the meeting.

Playing in excess of 32 minutes per game, Treadwell leads the program in both scoring and rebounding at the moment with 14.1 points and 8.6 rebounds per contest, although his presence on the floor is not always positive given that he is shooting only 61.9 percent at the free-throw line. While it may not be all his fault, Treadwell's lackluster effort at the charity stripe has brought the entire team down to just 62.9 percent. Quincy Diggs checks in with 12.3 ppg as the only other double-digit scorer on the roster at this time.

Against the top program in the MAC earlier this week, the Falcons fought hard but still came up short in the meeting with Toledo on the road. Bowling Green fell behind right out of the gate and was never able to fully recover, even as Jehvon Clarke and Anthony Henderson both tallied 23 points and seven rebounds, not to mention combining for 14 assists. Spencer Parker pitched in with 16 points and seven boards, while Cameron Black pulled down a team-best 10 rebounds and blocked three shots.

The Falcons have one of the more balanced scoring attacks in the MAC at the moment, sporting four players who are putting up double figures, led by Richaun Holmes with his 13.9 ppg, thanks to 53.5 percent shooting from the field. Holmes paces the program with 65 blocked shots and is second on the glass with 7.2 rpg, trailing only Black (7.4 rpg) who is more than willing to give up his own offensive aspirations (5.7 ppg) for the benefit of the team as a whole.

A milestone will be reached one way or another in this meeting and chances are, with the fire power that Akron possesses, it will be the visiting Zips.

Sports Network Predicted Outcome: Akron 73, Bowling Green 66
