GAME NOTES: The Toledo Rockets seek revenge in a rematch with the Ohio University Bobcats, this time the Mid-American Conference rivals meeting at Savage Arena on Wednesday night.

Maurice Ndour scored 28 points and ripped down 12 rebounds to lead Ohio to a 95-90 overtime win against Toledo on Feb. 1. The victory was the third straight and seventh in the last eight meetings for the Bobcats, who lead the all-time series, 69-54.

Ohio has split its two contests since defeating Toledo, suffering a road loss to Western Michigan (90-74) and claiming a home victory against Miami-Ohio (82-75). The Bobcats have won four of their last five overall and are currently 17-6 on the season, and 7-3 in league play, good enough for second place in the MAC East Division standings. They visit Buffalo next.

Toledo bounced back from the setback against Ohio with wins over Bowling Green (38-76) and Ball State (80-73). The Rockets have not stumbled often this season, logging with an incredible 20-3 mark overall and an 8-2 league ledger, earning it first place in the MAC West. Next up is a two-game road trek against Eastern Michigan and Bowling Green.

Nick Kellogg was the offensive force for Ohio in its recent win over Miami- Ohio, netting a game-high 27 points. Travis Wilkins was also electric, knocking down 6-of-8 shots from beyond the arc and finishing with 23 points. for the Bobcats, who outscored the RedHawks, 33-24, from 3-point range.

Ohio has been able to win games in a number of different ways this season, but the Bobcats are most effective when they are able to control the tempo with their defense. They are allowing only 65.9 ppg on 39.6 percent shooting this season. When they have the ball, they rank third in the MAC in both scoring (72.3 ppg) and field goal percentage (.451). Ndour (15.5 ppg, 7.9 rpg) and Kellogg (15 ppg) are the only two double-digit scorers on the roster, but the inside-outside combination they form is tough to contend with. Ndour finished with 14 points and eight rebounds in the win over Miami.

Rian Pearson poured in 20 points to lead four players in double figures as Toledo edged out Ball State on the road. Defense was the key, as the Rockets held their opponent to 39.2 percent shooting, while outscoring them, 25-9, off of turnovers.

The Rockets could certainly use another big night from Pearson (14 ppg) as leading scorer Justin Drummond (14.6 ppg) is serving a one-game suspension. Pearson is certainly capable of carrying the offensive load, as he averaged 17.9 ppg a year ago and is shooting career-bests from the field (.486) and from 3-point range (.378) this season. However, he will not be alone in filling the space left by Drummond. Julius Brown (14.5 ppg, 6.5 apg) is another fine scorer, who also leads the MAC in assists. Meanwhile, J.D. Weatherspoon (11.7 ppg, 6.8 rpg) is capable of scoring as a third option, although he had only five points on 1-of-7 shooting against Ball State.

There is a reason Toledo is the top scoring team in the MAC (83.3 ppg). The Rockets' ability to spread the wealth will allow them to overcome Drummond's absence and avenge their earlier loss to the Bobcats.
