Pitt stays unbeaten with rout of Delaware State

Pittsburgh, PA (Sports Network) - Dante Taylor scored 14 points in just 15 minutes of action, and third-ranked Pittsburgh exhibited its trademark defense en route to a 70-42 waxing of Delaware State.

J.J. Moore chipped in with 10 points and Pittsburgh's two big scoring stars, Ashton Gibbs and Brad Wanamaker contributed nine and eight points, respectively. Taylor added 10 rebounds to his team-high point total for the Panthers (10-0), who continue to roll ahead of Saturday's showdown with Tennessee.

"It was a good win and a solid performance for us," said Florida head coach Jamie Dixon. "We came and did what we had to do against a team that was going to make us be patient and let them run their system and rely on some penetration from their guards."

Marques Oliver scored 11 points and Desi Washington chipped in with nine for Delaware State (4-4), which saw its brief two-game winning streak come to an end with in-state rival Delaware on the docket this Saturday.

"I thought we gave a good effort," said Delaware State head coach Greg Jackson. "We wanted to make sure we stay inside the confines of our system against a team as big as they are inside, and that they are the number three team in the country, and I was pleased by how we stayed within that."

Pittsburgh controlled the opening 20 minutes, holding a 34-19 edge at the half, then commanded the initial minutes out of the locker room. Gibbs drained one of his three treys for a 42-21 edge. The Panthers edge grew to 51-28 when Moore stole an errant pass and streaked to the basket for a breakaway slam.

A three-pointer by Gilbert Brown and a layup from J.J. Richardson pushed the homestanding Panthers to 63-35 advantage. Richardson's conventional three- point play made it a 68-40 margin with just over 3 1/2 minutes remaining, and each team scored just two points the rest of the way.
