Iowa State's Hoiberg has pacemaker replaced

Rochester, MN (SportsNetwork.com) - Iowa State men's basketball coach Fred Hoiberg had his pacemaker replaced during surgery on Tuesday morning

The procedure at the Mayo Clinic was successful, Hoiberg said in a statement. He expects to be discharged and to return to Ames on Tuesday afternoon.

Hoiberg was a guard for the Minnesota Timberwolves when he had open-heart surgery in June 2005 to correct an enlarged aortic root, ending his NBA career.

Iowa State raised his salary $600,000 to $2.2 million per year in April after he led the Cyclones to their first Big 12 Tournament title in 14 years and a No. 3 seed in the NCAA Tournament.

They beat North Carolina Central and North Carolina before losing to eventual national champion Connecticut in the Sweet 16.

Hoiberg, 41, is 90-47 in his four seasons coaching Iowa State, where he played from 1991-95 before spending 10 years in the NBA. He signed a 10-year deal at Iowa State last year.
