GAME NOTES: For the first time ever the Jacksonville State Gamecocks and Dartmouth Big Green will be matched up on the hardwood, as they meet in a non-league affair at Leede Arena on Saturday afternoon.

The Gamecocks are fresh off a 63-52 victory over Alcorn State that stopped a short, two-game losing skid. The Gamecocks are now 4-7 overall this season, though they have been ghastly on the road, with a 1-6 ledger thus far.

Dartmouth has been sinking with three straight losses, following a 72-65 road setback against Illinois. Dartmouth wrapped up a four-game road trip in that battle. Dartmouth is now getting home for five of its next six games as it looks to improve on its 3-4 overall record and 2-1 mark at Leede Arena.

Some swarming defense from the Gamecocks allowed them to push past Alcorn State. Jacksonville State limited the Braves to only 29.2 percent shooting and forced 15 turnovers. The miscues helped alleviate the struggles for Jacksonville State on the offensive end, where it hit just 39.7 percent from the floor.

The Gamecocks are not normally a team that excels defensively. Jacksonville State is letting up 71.8 points per game this season on nearly 47 percent shooting. That has led to more than a few losses, as the Gamecocks are only netting 67.7 points per game. Darion Rackley (12.5 ppg) and Brian Williams (11.6 ppg) represent the only double figure scoring threats on the team, though each is connecting on less than 40 percent of their attempts from the floor. The duo combined for only 10 points against Alcorn State, while Undra Mitchem (7.1 ppg). picked up the slack with a team-high 13 points.

Connor Boehm and Gabas Maldunas each scored 17 points and collected nine rebounds, but got little help from the rest of the team in Dartmouth's loss to Illinois. Eli Harrison did contribute 14 points off the bench, including four 3-pointers, but the rest of the team hit just five shots combined.

In comparison to the rest of the Ivy League, Dartmouth is an offensive juggernaut. The Big Green lead the conference in scoring (75.3 pg) and field-goal percentage (.467). However, opponents have largely kept up by knocking down 46.9 percent of their shots against the Big Green. Boehm (12.3 ppg, 5.7 rpg) does the bulk of the heavy lifting on the offensive end as the team's leading scorer, shooting a scorching 62.3 percent from the field this season. Maldunas (10.9 ppg, 9.6 rpg) is a solid second option, especially with his ability to attack the boards. Alex Mitola (10.6 ppg, 3.3 apg) handles the production in the backcourt.

The Big Green have size up front and should be able to control the boards and possibly the tempo on their home floor.
