NCAA Game Summary - Western Carolina vs. Elon

(Saturday, March 8th)

Final Score: Western Carolina 66, Elon 64

Asheville, NC (SportsNetwork.com) - Tawaski King registered a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds as the Western Carolina Catamounts held on to defeat the Elon Phoenix, 66-64, in the second round of the 2014 Southern Conference Tournament at U.S. Cellular Center.

Also scoring in double figures for the fifth-seeded Catamounts (18-14) were Brandon Boggs and James Sinclair with 18 and 12 points, respectively, while they also combined to clear 15 rebounds to offset six collective turnovers.

Fourth-seeded Elon (18-14) was paced by Ryley Beaumont and his 16 points, to go along with a team-high eight rebounds, followed by Jack Isenbarger with 10 points in the setback.

The Phoenix, who led for the bulk of the first half and by as many as 11 in the final minutes, converted an even 50 percent from the field and 4-of-9 behind the 3-point line through the first 20 minutes in order to establish a 34-25 edge at the break.

In the second half Elon fell to only 37.9 percent from the floor and 1-of-10 on the perimeter, allowing WCU to fight back and take a late lead and the eventual two-point victory.

Western Carolina, which finished the outing with a mere 4-of-16 effort beyond the arc, will now be back in action on Sunday evening during the semifinals against Davidson which defeated Samford in the first game of the day, 77-54.
