GAME NOTES: As part of the Global Spots Challenge at Matthew Knight Arena the Cal Poly Mustangs will mix it up with North Dakota on Friday.

Cal Poly finally got its first win of the season in its last time, though it took a matchup with Bethesda, a team outside the Division I level, to earn the 78-39 triumph. Prior to the rout, the Mustangs had lost three straight contests, while failing to score more than 62 points in each setback.

North Dakota hasn't had much time on the court with the month of November coming to a close. A 95-77 victory over in-state rival North Dakota State last Sunday was just the third game of the year for the squad, which is sporting a 2-1 mark entering this weekend.

When these teams met for the only time during the 1984 season, Cal Poly pulled out a 47-45 victory.

Predictably, Cal Poly absolutely cruised to victory over Bethesda. The Mustangs had a 47-26 edge on the boards and recorded 11 more field goals than the Flames. Perhaps even more impressive was the fact that the Mustangs shut out their opponent from the free-throw line.

Despite their record sitting below the .500 level, the Mustangs actually own a slim positive scoring margin (+2.2). Cal Poly's strength lies on the defensive end of the floor where teams are earning only 58.5 points per game, while netting less than 40 percent from the field. Chris Eversley (14.2 ppg, 7.2 rpg) is a fairly polished scorer in the paint that also cleans the glass well. Eversley is also capable of stepping out to knock down shots from beyond the arc, though he finished out of double figures for the first time this season against Bethesda. David Nwaba (10.2 ppg, 5.0 rpg) and Kyle Odister (10.0 ppg) are the only other players putting in more than seven points per game.

North Dakota also had an easy time in its last outing as it blew past North Dakota State. In the contest, North Dakota hit 50.9 percent of its shots from the floor, while outscoring the Coyotes, 18-3, from beyond the arc. Troy Huff had an incredible game with 32 points and 10 rebounds in the win.

Huff (29 ppg, 8 rpg) is really heating up of late as his 32 points against NDSU wasn't even the best offensive outing he has had this season. The 6- foot-5 swingman netted 37 points in the previous game against Wisconsin and has been in double figures in all three games. Huff gets plenty of help from the second and third options in the lineup as Aaron Anderson (17.3 ppg) and Jaron Nash (15.3 ppg) are each potent scorers in their own right. The powerful scoring of that trio has kept North Dakota rolling on offense as it is posting 96.7 points per game on nearly 55 percent shooting from the floor. That includes a 23-of-49 showing from beyond the arc.

The pace at which North Dakota plays will give it a real advantage against the Mustangs. North Dakota scored 85 points against 10th-ranked Wisconsin so it is unlikely that Cal Poly will have much more luck slowing Huff and company down.
