GAME NOTES: Weber State tries to win on the road for the first time this season, as the Wildcats clash with the Northern Colorado Bears in Big Sky Conference action at Butler-Hancock Sports Pavilion.

Slated to host four straight conference games after returning from the road following a meeting with North Dakota on Saturday, the Wildcats have come up empty in four games away from home to this point. However, the program did run off three straight victories in Ogden with triumphs over Northern New Mexico, Eastern Washington and, last Saturday, Portland State (79-62).

Meanwhile, the Bears have bowed in just three of 11 games to this point in the campaign, the last of those being a 72-59 setback versus Wyoming on the road on Dec. 22. The team followed that up with an 84-66 win against North Dakota near the end of the month, and then crushed Southern Utah in the first outing of 2014 last Saturday in order to remain perfect at home (7-0).

The Wildcats own an 11-3 advantage in the all-time series, posting five straight wins over UNC. The teams will meet once more during the regular season on Feb. 8 at Weber State.

Davion Berry scored a game-high 21 points as the Weber State Wildcats captured a convincing 17-point win over the Portland State Vikings in Big Sky Conference action at the Dee Events Center. Jeremy Senglin accounted for 13 points and eight assists, followed by Jordan Richardson with 12 points on 4- of-7 shooting behind the 3-point line for the Wildcats, who outscored Portland State at the charity stripe, 22-10.

Despite shooting just 30.0 percent behind the 3-point line, Berry is still the leading scorer for the Wildcats with his 16.3 ppg, thanks in large part to his 76.9 percent effort at the free-throw line where he has made more shots than any one of his teammates has attempted. Senglin (12.3 ppg) and Kyle Tresnak (11.6 ppg) help keep up the pace on offense, while Joel Bolomboy is someone who has the potential to post a double-double every time he steps on the floor as he averages 8.1 points and 9.6 rebounds per contest.

Tim Huskisson scored 16 points as the Northern Colorado Bears demolished the Southern Utah Thunderbirds by 36 points in Big Sky Conference action at home last weekend. Also scoring in double figures for the Bears was Jordan Wilson with 10 points, while Tevin Svihovec, Dominique Lee and Tate Unruh all tallied nine points as the team won for the sixth time in seven tries. Northern Colorado crushed the Thunderbirds on the glass, 35-20, and forced SUU into 16 turnovers on the night.

On a team that is producing 75.5 ppg, Derrick Barden leads four players in double figures with his 13.5 ppg, thanks to his 56.0 percent shooting from the floor and not so much his mere 54.1 percent effort at the free-throw line over the course of 11 starts. Barden is also first in rebounding, his 8.7 per contest twice the number of any of his teammates. Svihovec (11.5 ppg), Unruh (11.0 ppg) and Huskisson (10.5 ppg) are all key figures in the team converting 49.1 percent from the field and almost 40 percent behind the 3-point line.

The Wildcats have been a bit sluggish coming out of the gate this season, but now that the Big Sky schedule is unfolding the team will have a chance to get back to playing the opponents they know the best, and should have an advantage in those meetings as a result.
