GAME NOTES: The Tennessee State Tigers seek an end to an ugly six-game losing streak, as they welcome the Morehead State Eagles to the Gentry Center for an Ohio Valley Conference clash.

The Eagles close out a two-game stint in the Music City after suffering an 80-66 setback at nearby Belmont on Thursday. The loss to the Bruins was just the second in the last seven games for Morehead State, leaving the team at 13-8 overall and 4-2 in conference play.

It has been a miserable campaign for Tennessee State thus far, as the team has managed just two wins against a staggering 20 losses. The Tigers have the worst record in the OVC as well as overall, at just 1-7. TSU hasn't won a game since Jan. 4 against Jacksonville State (70-65) and most recently suffered a 94-78 loss to Eastern Kentucky on Thursday.

In a pretty evenly matched series, Morehead State owns a slim 32-29 advantage. MSU won both regular-season matchups a year ago, but Tennessee State got the last laugh with a victory in the OVC Tournament.

Belmont jumped out to a lead by using an 11-0 run early on and never let Morehead State get back in the game at Curb Events Center on Thursday. The Eagles shot a solid .460 from the floor in the game, but Belmont was a better 50 percent efficiency and outscored MSU 24-13 at the free-throw line. Brent Arrington had a strong showing, hitting 8-of-9 shots from the field to tally 21 points in the loss. Angelo Warner added 16 points, while Chad Posthumus finished with 12 off the bench.

Despite its efforts against Belmont, Morehead State has the ability to hang with most teams at the offensive end of the court, averaging a solid 78.3 ppg. The team has also done a nice job on the glass, outrebounding foes by 8.1 caroms per game. Warner paces the team and ranks fifth in the conference in scoring at 17.4 ppg. Arrington is next at 12.3 ppg, followed by Posthumus, who is averaging a double-double with 10.7 points and a conference-best 12.0 rebounds per game. Kareem Storey doesn't add much in terms of scoring (6.6 ppg), but he does lead the OVC in assists (5.8 apg).

Patrick Miller once again had a huge game, but his 33 points weren't enough in Tennessee State's lopsided loss to Eastern Kentucky on Thursday. TSU shot a smoldering 55.1 percent from the floor in the game, but turned the ball over 16 times, resulting in 23 points for the Colonels. Miller shot 12-of-19 from the floor and 8-of-9 from the free-throw line to post his fourth 30+ point effort of the season. Jordan Gaither played just 16 minutes off the bench, but drained five 3-pointers en route to a 20-point effort.

Miller has been outstanding for TSU this year, leading the OVC in scoring at a hefty 22.6 ppg. He has certainly made opponents pay for sending him to the charity stripe, already converting a whopping 148-of-190 attempts. M.J. Rhett is a distant second in the scoring column with 10.2 ppg, while serving as the team's top rebounder, ranking fourth in the OVC with 9.2 rpg. A lack of scoring options beyond Miller and Rhett coupled with shoddy defensive play (giving up 77.1 ppg) has led to the team's struggles finding victories.

Miller will get his points, but as has been the case all year, the Tigers will drop another game due to their shallow scoring pool. Morehead State should get back to its winning ways without much trouble here.
