Ypsilanti, MI (SportsNetwork.com) - Karrington Ward was unstoppable as he posted 28 points to propel the Eastern Michigan Eagles to an 81-69 victory over the Cleveland State Vikings in a non-conference matchup at the Convocation Center.

Ward connected on 9-of-10 of his field goal attempts to register a new career- high in points for Eastern Michigan (4-0) and also tied for the team-lead with six rebounds. Glenn Bryant chipped in 10 points in 14 minutes off the bench for the Eagles. Da'Shonte Riley finished the contest with six of the team's 13 blocked shots.

The Vikings (2-2) were paced by Bryn Forbes, who scored 22 points in 23 minutes before fouling out. Trey Lewis scored 19 points and grabbed eight board off the bench, but he went 3-of-20 from the field and committed four turnovers and also fouled out.

Cleveland State had trouble connecting from the perimeter in the early stages of the contest as it was limited to 2-of-13 shooting from beyond the arc in the first half. The Vikings still managed to make 42.4 percent of the field goal tries in the opening 20 minutes of action to take a 35-32 lead into the break. EMU sank only 7-of-13 attempts at the charity stripe in the opening stanza which prevented it from taking advantage of its strong defensive play.

The Eagles heated up to shoot 65.2 percent from the floor and hit on 17-of-26 attempts at the free-throw line after halftime. The hosts pulled away as they limited Cleveland State to just six makes on 34 field goal tries in the second half. In addition to Forbes and Lewis, CSU finished the game without starters Charlie Lee, Anton Grady and Marlin Mason as they were all disqualified after committing five personal fouls apiece.

Due to the excellent interior defense anchored by Riley, EMU outscored the Vikings, 34-22, in the paint.
