GAME NOTES: First round action of the Horizon League Conference Tournament will feature the seventh-seeded Youngstown State Penguins on the road to face the sixth-seeded Oakland Golden Grizzlies at the Athletics Center O'Rena in Rochester.

The winner of this game will take on three-seed Wright State in second-round action on Friday.

Youngstown State will look to try and fix a three-game losing streak that ended their regular-season schedule, but this time the Penguins' season depends on it. YSU was downed by the very Golden Grizzlies this past Saturday the team will go up against Tuesday, 87-81, in Youngstown. The Penguins ended the year with a 6-10 conference record.

Oakland won two of the team's last three games at the end of the regular season, including the 87-81 victory over Youngstown State on the road this past Saturday. The victory lifted the Grizzlies to a 7-9 record in conference play that clinched them the sixth seed.

The victory for Oakland also improved the Golden Grizzlies' lead in the all- time series with YSU to 7-4. Oakland swept the season series with the Penguins with an 86-85 edging at Youngstown back on Jan. 31.

The Penguins held a slim 45-43 lead over Oakland as the teams broke for halftime on Saturday, but the Grizzlies wouldn't let the lead stand. They raced past the Penguins in the second half by outscoring them, 44-36, in the period for the victory. Kendrick Perry led all YSU players with 30 points, adding five rebounds and eight assists to his stat line. Bobby Hain chipped in 15 points and eight rebounds, and Ryan Weber added 13 points off the bench. D.J. Cole rounded out the double-digit Penguins scorers with 11 points, adding seven rebounds and six assists in the loss.

YSU boasts the conference's leading scorer, Perry, who netted 20.9 ppg on the season. Weber (11.9 ppg), Kamren Belin (11.3 ppg) and Hain (11.3 ppg) contributed to a strong offensive attack for the Penguins. The Penguins will hope their league-leading offense (76.4 ppg) will be enough to cancel out Oakland's 74.1 ppg. Hain leads the team in rebounding at 7.6 rpg, and Cole tops the squad with 139 assists on the year. Perry is right behind Cole's assists total at 133.

Oakland got a strong offensive showing against Youngstown State, especially in the second half. Travis Bader, the NCAA's all-time leader in 3-point field goals, scored a game-high 33 points on Saturday, connecting on 6-of-13 from 3- point range. Corey Petros netted 23 points and grabbed 13 rebounds for the double-double, while Kahlil Felder notched a double-double of his own with 10 points and 12 assists. The Golden Grizzlies shot 54.5 percent from the floor in the win.

Bader scored 20.1 ppg to lead his Grizzlies - which was the third-best total in the conference - hitting 41 percent from 3-point range. Corey Petros chipped in 13.4 ppg with a team-best 8.2 rpg average, and Duke Mondy netted 11.7 ppg for Oakland. Petros added a team-high 8.2 rpg average to his stat line, and Mondy recorded 86 steals on the season. His 117 assists was a team second-best total behind Felder's impressive 193 assists. The Grizzlies are averaging 74.3 ppg and are giving up 77.1 ppg.

Youngstown State has an offensively talented roster, but the Golden Grizzlies have had the better of YSU all season long, and at home will look for a third- straight victory to end the Penguins' season. As long as Oakland's players do their part, the Grizzlies should be able to move on to the next round.
