NCAA Game Summary - UNLV at Boise State

(Saturday, February 22nd)

Final Score: Boise State 91, UNLV 90 (OT)

Boise, ID (SportsNetwork.com) - Ryan Watkins tallied a double-double with 22 points and 15 rebounds as the Boise State Broncos edged out the UNLV Runnin' Rebels, 91-90, in a Mountain West overtime bout at Taco Bell Arena.

Anthony Drmic also chipped in 22 points in the win for the Boise State (18-9, 8-6 MW). Derrick Marks added 17 points, and Nick Duncan contributed 12 points. The win was the third in a row for the Broncos.

Deville Smith scored 22 points and dished out a team-high seven assists for UNLV (17-10, 8-6). Khem Birch and Bryce Dejean-Jones each netted 16 points, while Birch also notched 11 rebounds for the double-double. Roscoe Smith added 14 points, Kevin Olekaibe had 11 and Christian Wood scored 10 points. The Rebels have lost two straight games.

Both Boise State and UNLV came out hot in the first half. The Broncos connected on 54.5 percent of their field goal tries, but went just 2-of-10 from 3-point range. UNLV hit 51.9 percent from the floor in the frame, and took a slim 39-38 lead into the intermission.

The Rebels cooled to 48.4 percent shooting in the second half. Boise State also slipped in shooting accuracy, dropping down to 41.2 percent. The Broncos edged out the Rebels from the free-throw line in the period, though, and thanks to two Watkins free throws with 30 seconds left, Boise State was able to force overtime, bringing the score to 78-78.

The teams traded baskets in the overtime period, and UNLV led by one point, 90-89, with under 10 seconds left to play. A Marks' jumper with 3.4 seconds remaining gave the Broncos the lead, but after Smith connected on what appeared to be the game-winning jumper at the buzzer on the other end for UNLV, the officials waived off the bucket after video review and Boise State held on.

Boise State won the battle for points in the paint, 56-48. UNLV had the edge in second chance points, 18-13, and in fast break points, 4-0.
