NCAA Game Summary - Duke at Miami-Florida

(Wednesday, January 22nd)

Final Score: (18) Duke 67, Miami-Florida 46

Coral Gables, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - A year ago Thursday the Blue Devils were humbled by the Hurricanes at BankUnited Center by 27 points when they were the top-ranked team in the country.

This year, they did the humbling.

Star freshman Jabari Parker recorded his fifth double-double of the season and No. 18 Duke picked up its first true road win of the season with a 67-46 drubbing of Miami-Florida on Wednesday.

Parker finished with 17 points, 15 rebounds and three blocks, while Rodney Hook chipped in 12 points for the Blue Devils (15-4, 4-2 ACC), winners of three straight following a slow 1-2 start in ACC play.

"We played really well against a very good basketball team," Duke head coach Mike Krzyzewski said. "I was very pleased with our effort."

Miami (10-8, 2-4) fell for the fourth time in six games and has yet to top the 63-point mark in league action. Donnavan Kirk led the struggling Hurricanes offense with a 11-point effort on 5-of-11 shooting.

"They out-worked us in the first half," Miami head coach Jim Larranaga said. "We were like a deer in headlights."

Duke essentially led wire-to-wire, trailing only when it was a 2-0 game.

Parker's jumper near the midway point of the opening half gave Duke a 17-10 cushion, and an 11-0 run after Miami cut its deficit to three widened the gap.

Quinn Cook hit one of the Blue Devils' four first-half 3-pointers during the spurt, which was capped by Hood throwing down consecutive dunks off turnovers.

Garrius Adams' jumper ended Miami's drought and sent the hosts into the break down by a 33-21 count, and while the Hurricanes cleaned up their turnover- prone ways from the first half, they never pulled within single digits in the second.

Duke came out of the halftime on a 9-2 run, with Matt Jones' deep make yielding a 42-23 cushion, and the Blue Devils withstood a nearly five-minute dry spell that allowed Miami to inch as close as a dozen.

Parker's three-point play followed by a Rasheed Sulaimon 3-pointer extended Duke's lead to 53-35 with less than eight minutes remaining, and Duke cruised from there.

Game Notes

Krzyzewski is one win shy of becoming the second coach in NCAA Division I history to record 900 wins at one school ... Miami, which shot 35.4 percent from the floor, fell to 4-5 on its home floor ... Eight of Miami's 11 turnovers came in the first half ... NBA stars LeBron James, Kobe Bryant, Dwyane Wade and former Blue Devil Shane Battier were in attendance.
