GAME NOTES: The Morehead State Eagles will try to lock down the No. 3 seed in the upcoming Ohio Valley Conference Tournament tonight when they welcome the Golden Eagles of Tennessee Tech to Johnson Arena for the regular-season finale for both teams.

Tennessee Tech is seeking a return to the win column after falling at Eastern Kentucky on Thursday night, 74-67. Prior to that outcome, the Golden Eagles had won five of six in the month of February.

Similarly, Morehead State was cruising through the month of February with a five-game win streak, but has since dropped two in a row, including a last- second loss to Tennessee State on Thursday. Still, the Eagles can clinch the No. 3 seed for the league tourney with a win here and an EKU loss to Tennessee State on Saturday.

When these teams met in Tennessee Tech's gym on Feb. 15, MSU went on a 17-0 run en route to a 79-53 win. The Eagles lead the all-time series, 76-63, and they have won each of their last seven home games against Tech.

Tennessee Tech led the Colonels for most of Thursday's contest, but EKU surged ahead late in regulation and managed to hold on for the win. The result spoiled a career-night from Golden Eagles guard Jeremia Samarrippas, who was 8-of-11 from the field and finished with a personal-best 22 points to go along with seven assists. Josiah Moore added 10 points in the loss, while Dennis Ogbe and Javon McKay each scored 10. The Golden Eagles shot a healthy 50 percent from the field, but they also allowed EKU to shoot 51.1 percent and were -8 in turnover margin.

On the season, Ogbe leads the team in scoring (10.6 ppg) and rebounding (6.0 rpg). Samarrippas is averaging 18.3 points and 6.7 assists per game in league play while shooting 43.8 percent out on the perimeter.

Headlining Morehead State's roster is Angelo Warner, the OVC's sixth-leading scorer with 17.6 ppg. But he is far from the team's only scoring option as Brent Arrington (11.4 ppg), Drew Kelly (10.3 ppg) and Chad Posthumus (10.1 ppg) are also averaging double figures. Posthumus is a handful down low, where he ranks third in the nation with 11.5 total rebounds per game.

On Thursday night, the Eagles rallied back from a 14-point deficit in the second half to tie the score at 67 with 19 seconds remaining. After the Tigers called a timeout they did not have, Warner (19 points) sank 1-of-2 technical free throws to give the Eagles a one-point lead. However, TSU's Miller, the league's leading scorer, buried the game-winning 3-pointer with 2.4 seconds left as he finished with a career-high 38 points.

Although this should be a tight game between two of the OVC's better squads, ultimately MSU has not lost at home to Tech since 2006. In addition, the Eagles will have plenty of motivation as they eye the No. 3 seed as well as their first 20-win season since 2010-11.
