GAME NOTES: The Air Force Falcons are into the title game for the third time in as many years, as they challenge host VMI in the All-Military Classic at Cameron Hall.

Air Force, which produced an impressive 18-14 record overall last season, yet was just 4-10 in true road games and 1-2 on neutral floors, kicked off the new campaign on the right foot in Virginia on Friday afternoon with a 79-68 triumph over the Army Black Knights.

As for the Keydets, the hosts for this year's tournament, they fell behind The Citadel by 13 points in the first half on Friday, but stormed back to capture an 82-71 victory in their season opener.

Air Force won the first and only meeting between the programs two seasons ago in this event, 75-45. The Falcons won this event last year by topping Army (76-65) and The Citadel (77-70) in back-to-back days in Charleston, South Carolina.

Tre Coggins was one of four players to score in double figures for the Falcons as he tallied 20 points on the win over Army yesterday. Coggins was 3-of-5 behind the 3-point line and added four rebounds in an effort to offset his four turnovers. Kamryn Williams pitched in with 15 points and 10 rebounds, followed by Max Yon and Darrius Parker with 12 points apiece, the former converting all three chances beyond the arc and the latter doing his damage in only 18 minutes off the bench.

Air Force finished the day shooting an impressive 53.1 percent from the field and an even more successful 66.7 percent (10-of-15) behind the 3-point line. Defensively, the Falcons limited Army to just 33.8 percent success from the floor and 12-of-44 out on the perimeter. The Knights attempted just 24 shots from inside the three-point line.

QJ Peterson connected on half of his 18 field goal attempts, although he converted just 2-of-7 behind the 3-point line, as he finished with a team-best 25 points in the victory over The Citadel yesterday. Rodney Glasgow produced 20 points, eight rebounds and four assists for the hosts, followed by D.J. Covington and Jordan Weethee with 10 points apiece. Weethee shot only 1-of-6 from the outside, but proved to be much more of a threat in the paint where he cleared a team-best 11 rebounds, seven of which came at the offensive end of the floor.

At the defensive end, VMI limited the Bulldogs to only 33.3 percent shooting overall, including 6-of-21 from 3-point range. In addition, the Keydets also forced 20 turnovers in order to offset the fact that they were beaten on the glass by a 53-50 margin.

The Falcons showed that they can hit the outside shot on Friday, but they'll need to also turn in a strong defensive effort on the perimeter this time around in order to have a chance at picking up the win versus a VMI team that lives and dies by the long-distance shot.

Sports Network Predicted Outcome: Air Force 76, VMI 72
