Mount Pleasant, MI (SportsNetwork.com) - Geovonie McKnight and Will Sullivan scored 17 points each as the Miami-Ohio RedHawks defeated the Central Michigan Chippewas, 77-70, in the Mid-American Conference opener for both sides at McGuirk Arena.

Will Felder chipped in 15 points and eight rebounds for Miami (5-7, 1-0 MAC), which also received 13 points off the bench from Jaryd Eustace. Quinten Rollins recorded seven steals and handed out for assists to help the RedHawks pick up their third win in four games.

Chris Fowler paced CMU (7-6, 0-1) with 22 points and seven assists. Blake Hibbitts contributed 17 points while John Simons tallied 10 points and finished one rebound shy of a double-double. The loss was the third in four games for the Chippewas.

Miami went ahead by eight points near the midway point of the first half, but the hosts rallied back to take a 27-26 lead into the intermission. CMU shot just 37.5 percent from the field in the opening 20 minutes of the contest. The RedHawks knocked down 4-of-7 attempts from beyond the arc, but trailed after failed to make a single trip to the free-throw line before halftime.

The Chippewas hit on 42.4 percent of their field goal tries including a 4- of-15 clip from 3-point range in the second period. Miami managed to convert 55.2 percent of its shots from the floor and also 17-of-21 tries at the charity stripe after the break to take control. The RedHawks led for the final 15:14 of regulation.

Despite the loss, CMU finished the game with a 38-31 edge in total rebounds. Miami outscored the Chippewas, 36-28, in the paint.
