GAME NOTES: The weakest team in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference tries to get back into the win column tonight, as the Fairfield Stags entertain the Marist Red Foxes at Webster Bank Arena.

The Stags have a total of just six wins in 30 chances this season, only half of those victories coming against MAAC opponents. Alone at the bottom of the league standings at 3-16, Fairfield is coming off a 63-62 loss to Saint Peter's three nights ago in New Jersey, marking the second straight defeat and the fifth in six games for the squad.

Over on the other side, the Red Foxes are close to breaking even in MAAC play, but time is running out in the regular season with the squad sporting an 8-10 mark. On Sunday, the team hosted Iona and came up short in an 86-67 final, the second loss in as many outings for Marist.

Marist crushed the Stags in the first meeting of the season in early January with a 75-56 victory at home, which means the all-time series now numbers 28-22 in favor of Fairfield.

The Red Foxes were paced by Khallid Hart with 18 points, although he shot just 1-of-5 behind the 3-point line on the day, as the team suffered the home loss against the Gaels on Sunday. Chavaughn Lewis pitched in with 17 points and five rebounds off the bench, while Jay Bowie and Adam Kemp tacked on 14 and 10 points, respectively, the latter also collecting nine boards as the team suffered with just 3-of-22 shooting behind the 3-point line.

Lewis stands as the top scorer for the Red Foxes with his 17.1 ppg over the course of 27 starts in 28 games, but his mere 39.3 percent accuracy from the floor and even more disappointing 28.4 percent effort beyond the arc is of little encouragement. Hart has been one of the more aggressive scorers of late and has lifted his average to 14.6 ppg, while Bowie checks in with another 12.0 ppg and has paired with Hart to knock down 97 triples, which is more than half the unit's total (174).

For the Stags, Amadou Sidibe led all scorers with 18 points to go along with 14 rebounds and Maurice Barrow scored 15, but still the team came up just short against Saint Peter's a few nights ago at the Yanitelli Center. The Stags outrebounded the Peacocks, 29-25, and also finished with the edge in points in the paint, 28-26, but even those advantages were not enough for the win.

During conference games the Stags are being outscored by more than seven points on average, as they shoot only 40.7 percent from the floor. But a more telling stat has the team being outscored by a 413-243 margin at the free- throw line. Barrow (15.3 ppg) and Marcus Gilbert (13.5 ppg) have been trying to give the team a fighting chance, but it just hasn't happened.

The Red Foxes could still see some considerable movement in the MAAC standings with the conference tournament just around the corner, but they'll need a their key contributors to step up and make it happen.
